University of Wyoming Calendar for Sept. 3

These are among the activities scheduled Sept. 3-9 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Sept. 3 -- Most UW administrative offices will be closed, and classes will be dismissed for Labor Day.

Tuesday, Sept. 4, 10 a.m. -- “Indigenous Mapping: Collecting Truths” and “Representations of Identity and the American Dream” will open at the UW Art Museum. Free.

Tuesday, Sept. 4, 7 p.m. -- UW Planetarium show, “This Month’s Sky.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics/ and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Wednesday, Sept. 5, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. -- The UW Wellness Center will host an open house. The center is located in the southwest corner of the Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center. Free.

Wednesday, Sept. 5, 12:10-12:50 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host “Lunchtime Conversations with Curators,” an informal gallery walk-through. UW student curators Jandey Shackelford and Cameron Green will lead a discussion of the exhibition “Representations of Identity and the American Dream.” Members of Forward Wyoming and Pokes Vote will join the conversation. Lunch will be provided following the gallery walk-through. Free.

Thursday, Sept. 6, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO presents local indie folk band The Woodpile. Lora Sherrodd, a jazz vocalist from Laramie, will be the opening act. The show will take place in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, Sept. 6-Saturday, Sept. 8, 7 p.m. -- UW will host the Mountain West Improv Fest at the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts Thrust Theatre. The event is free, but tickets are required. Friday, Sept. 7, noon -- Cowgirl volleyball vs. Binghamton University, UniWyo Sports Complex. Ticket prices vary.

Friday, Sept. 7, 4 p.m. -- Cowgirl soccer vs. University of Montana, Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. Free.

Friday, Sept. 7-Sunday, Sept. 9 -- The WyoHackathon 2018, a technology-based event hosted by UW, will take place at War Memorial Fieldhouse. The public is invited to attend keynote speeches from some of the world’s foremost experts on cryptocurrency and blockchain. For more information, go to www.wyohackathon.io.

Friday, Sept. 7, 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. -- 7220 Entertainment’s Films Committee will screen “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Free.

Friday, Sept. 7, 7 p.m. -- Cowgirl volleyball vs. Arizona State University, UniWyo Sports Complex. Ticket prices vary.

Friday, Sept. 7, 8 p.m. -- UW Planetarium show, “A Clockwork Universe.” The STAR Observatory on the rooftop of the Physical Sciences Building will be open from 8-10 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Saturday, Sept. 8, 10 a.m. -- “The Floating World: Printmaking Techniques in Japanese Ukiyo-e” will open at the UW Art Museum. Free.
