University of Wyoming Calendar for Sept. 24

These are among the activities scheduled Sept. 24-30 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Sept. 24-Friday, Sept. 28, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. -- The Wyoming State Geological Survey (WSGS) will host an open house for a rare mammal fossil found near Kemmerer. The open house will be in the WSGS office on campus, located next to the UW Geological Museum. The final viewing will take place Saturday, Sept. 29, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Free.

Monday, Sept. 24, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents David Fike, a professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis. The lecture will be in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the UW Geological Museum. Free.

Tuesday, Sept. 25, 12:20 p.m. -- The UW Division of Kinesiology and Health’s Intellectual Community Seminar Series presents Tim Noteboom, dean and program director of the School of Physical Therapy at South College. He will discuss “The Changing Landscape of Graduate Healthcare Education” in the Corbett Building, Room 137. Free.

Tuesday, Sept. 25, 7 p.m. -- UW Planetarium full-dome movie, “DARK the Movie.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics/ and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Wednesday, Sept. 26, 7:30 p.m. -- UW Department of Music Professor Theresa Bogard will present a concert of classical music on a replica of a fortepiano. The performance will be in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.

Wednesday, Sept. 26, 8 p.m. -- 7220 Entertainment’s Fine Arts and Lectures Committee presents a poetry slam night, featuring Anthony McPherson. The event is free and open to the public; however, only UW students may sign up to present. The poetry slam will take place in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union.

Thursday, Sept. 27, 1-4:30 p.m. -- The Wyoming Small Business Development Center Network will host a workshop with “foodpreneur” expert Marty Butts. He will share information about how to be successful in food-related businesses. His workshop will be at UW’s Wyoming Technology Business Center. To register, go to www.wyomingsbdc.org.

Thursday, Sept. 27, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO will host an open mic night in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, Sept. 27, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Wind Symphony presents a pops concert, featuring popular music from fanfare to folk. The concert will be in the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $12 for the public, $8 for senior citizens and $6 for students. Friday, Sept. 28, noon-1 p.m. -- The UW School of Energy Resources Fall Speaker Series presents David Bell, a UW associate professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering. Bell will present “Fractionation of Coal as a First Step in Coal Refinery” in the Energy Innovation Center’s Encana Auditorium. Lunch will be provided. Free.

Friday, Sept. 28, 5 p.m. -- The Cowboy and Cowgirl swimming and diving teams will host the Brown and Gold Meet in the Corbett Building. Free.

Friday, Sept. 28, 5:30 p.m., 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. -- 7220 Entertainment’s Films Committee will screen “The Incredibles” and “Incredibles 2” in the Wyoming Union East Ballroom. “Incredibles 2” will show at 5:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. “The Incredibles” will show at 8 p.m. Free.

Friday, Sept. 28, 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. -- UW Planetarium show, “Heroes in the Sky.” The STAR Observatory on the rooftop of the Physical Sciences Building will be open from 7-9 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Friday, Sept. 28, 7:30 p.m. -- The Dustbowl Revival, an Americana-style band, will open the UW Presents fall season. The concert will take place in Laramie’s Gryphon Theatre. Tickets cost $15 for the public; $12 for seniors, and UW faculty and staff; and $10 for students. Saturday, Sept. 29, 8 a.m. -- UW’s Exercise is Medicine on Campus will host the Family Weekend 5K Fun Run at the UW Recreation Fields.

Saturday, Sept. 29, 5 p.m. -- Cowboy football vs. Boise State University, War Memorial Stadium. Ticket prices vary.

Sunday, Sept. 30, 5 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music’s Faculty Recital Series presents Kaori Uno-Jack, a UW lecturer and bassoonist, and Naoko Suga, a guest pianist, in the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.

Sunday, Sept. 30, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Chamber Orchestra presents “Baroque Alchemy” in the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $10 for the public, $7 for senior citizens and $6 for students.
