University of Wyoming management student Morgan Cloud, from Cheyenne, spent the summer as an intern for the United States Budget Committee in Washington, D.C.

Cloud, who wants to become a federal judge, says the internship allowed her to get one step closer to accomplishing that goal. Cloud worked directly on projects that would be viewed by Wyoming U.S. Sen. Mike Enzi.

“We worked directly on projects that were going to be seen by the senator,” Cloud says. “I did a lot of hands-on projects that were directly related to what was going on the floor.”

Cloud says her work as a member of UW’s Alpha Kappa Psi (AKPsi) bylaw committee helped with her internship.

“In order to track and read legislation, I had to be a strong reader,” Cloud notes. “Working on the bylaw committee for AKPsi really helped me do that.”

Her time spent in AKPsi also helped her gain networking skills. She says it was important to leave a good impression with the people she met in Enzi’s office.

In addition to her internship, Cloud was part of the Stennis Program for Congressional Interns. The program allowed her to listen to a variety of speakers, including U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Cloud says Ginsburg was inspiring.

“When Ginsburg got out of law school, she never imagined she would become a judge because women just weren’t judges 50-plus years ago,” Cloud says. “But now, because of her hard work and strides she has taken for women, I can dream that dream.”

Currently, Cloud is back at UW and is the Beta Nu chapter vice president of alumni relations.

“I make a monthly newsletter for all the UW alumni,” she says. “I am trying to start an endowment fund for scholarships for future members.”

Cloud plans to attend law school when she graduates from UW and believes the skills learned during her internship, combined with her involvement in AKPsi, will help her achieve that goal.
