Earth Science Events Scheduled Oct. 13 at UW

Art competitions, a virtual reality tour and other hands-on activities are part of Earth Science Week activities Saturday, Oct. 13, at the University of Wyoming.

“Wyoming ROCKS! The Art of Our Geology” will take place from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the UW Geological Museum. The event is free and open to the public; refreshments will be available.

The event is co-organized with the Wyoming State Geological Survey, along with collaborations from UW’s Art Museum, Coe Student Innovation Center and the Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium.

Activities include geologic formation sand art, identifying rock types, 3-D printing, a sandbox art competition, an opportunity to view the inside of the UW Art Museum’s Ann Simpson Artmobile and a virtual reality tour in the UW Soils and Pedology Lab.

Free UW planetarium shows are scheduled at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The planetarium, which seats 58, is located in the basement of the Physical Sciences Building.
