University of Wyoming Calendar for Oct. 22

These are among the activities scheduled Oct. 22-28 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Oct. 22, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents John Singleton, an assistant professor of the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University. Singleton will discuss “Underplating and Exhumation of a Laramide Subduction Complex in Western Arizona.” The lecture will be in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the UW Geological Museum. Free.

Tuesday, Oct. 23, 8:15 a.m.-4:30 p.m. -- Ten innovative businesses formed by UW graduate students will make presentations during the Fisher Innovation Launchpad in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. Free.

Tuesday, Oct. 23, 12:20 p.m. -- The UW Division of Kinesiology and Health’s Intellectual Community Seminar Series presents Lingli Chen, a visiting scholar in the division, and Jacob Layer, a UW doctoral student. Chen will discuss “Are Chinese More Collectivistic than Westerners?” Layer will discuss “Baseline Strength and Balance Assessments in Collegiate Athletes.” The talks will take place in the Corbett Building, Room 137. Free.

Tuesday, Oct. 23, 6 p.m. -- The UW Political Science Club and UW debate team present “A Crash Course on Wyoming Politics” in the Classroom Building, Room 214. Free.

Tuesday, Oct. 23, 7 p.m. -- UW Planetarium full-dome movie, “ Phantom of the Universe .” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at  www.uwyo.edu/physics/  and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Wednesday, Oct. 24, 8 p.m. -- The 7220 Club Events Committee presents Chris Lake , a Grammy Award-nominated DJ and house music producer.  Lake will perform in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 25, 5:15 p.m. -- All four Wyoming gubernatorial candidates will participate in a debate in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 25, 6:30 p.m. -- Cowgirl volleyball vs. Fresno State, UniWyo Sports Complex. Ticket prices vary.

Thursday, Oct. 25, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO presents the second open mic night of the season. Open mic night will take place in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 25, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Symphony Orchestra presents “Earth and Sky” in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $12 for the public, $8 for senior citizens and $6 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at  www.uwyo.edu/finearts .

Friday, Oct. 26, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. -- The 2018 Landscape Discussion on Energy Law and Policy in the Rockies will take place in the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center. The keynote speaker is David Bernhardt, deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior. The UW School of Energy Resources and the UW College of Law’s Center for Law and Energy Resources in the Rockies host the conference. Friday, Oct. 26, noon -- The UW Libraries will screen “Young Frankenstein” in Coe Library, Room 123. A panel discussion will follow the screening. Free.

Friday, Oct. 26, 2 p.m. -- The UW Libraries will screen “The Bride of Frankenstein” in Coe Library, Room 123. A panel discussion will follow the screening. Free.

Friday, Oct. 26, 3 p.m. -- Cowgirl soccer vs. Colorado State University, Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. Free.

Friday, Oct. 26, 4:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Anthropology Fall Seminar Series presents Jeff Meldrum, a professor of anatomy and anthropology at Idaho State University. Meldrum will discuss “Bigfoot: The Patterson-Gimlin Film 50 Years Later” in the College of Business auditorium. Free.

Friday, Oct. 26, 6 p.m. -- A reception for Brooke Michael and William Myers, UW student artists, will be in the Visual Arts Building, THIS and THAT galleries. Free.
