University of Wyoming Calendar for Oct. 29

These are among the activities scheduled Oct. 29-Nov. 4 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Oct. 29, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Brad Carr, a research scientist in the department. Carr will discuss “Understanding Yellowstone Hydrothermal Phase Separation Systems and Geyser Dynamics with Shallow Geophysical Imaging” in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the UW Geological Museum. Free.

Monday, Oct. 29, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Community Band and Civic Chorus present “ Earth Song ” in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $10 for the public, $7 for senior citizens and $6 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at  www.uwyo.edu/finearts .

Tuesday, Oct. 30, 4:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of History and American Studies presents Alan Gallay , the Lyndon B. Johnson Chair of U.S. History at Texas Christian University. Gallay is this year’s Cone Lecture in History speaker. He will discuss “Embracing the Natives: Walter Ralegh and the Origins of the English Empire” in the Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center auditorium. A reception will follow his talk. Free.

Tuesday, Oct. 30, 7 p.m. -- UW Planetarium full-dome movie, “ Phantom of the Universe: The Hunt for Dark Matter .” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at  www.uwyo.edu/physics/  and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Wednesday, Oct. 31, 4-7 p.m. -- UW, in conjunction with Fraternity and Sorority Life, and Residence Life and Dining Services, will host Safe Treat in the lower level of Washakie Dining Center and on UW’s Fraternity and Sorority Row. Free.

Wednesday, Oct. 31, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music will host renowned saxophonist Claude Delangle . He will perform in the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.

Wednesday, Oct. 31, 8 p.m. -- The 7220 Entertainment Films Committee will screen “ Shaun of the Dead” in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, Nov. 1, 1 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music will host renowned saxophonist Claude Delangle . He will offer a master class in the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.

Thursday, Nov. 1, 6 p.m. -- Authors of “ Wild Migrations: Atlas of Wyoming’s Ungulates ” will discuss the first-ever atlas of ungulate migration. The book is the result of a six-year collaboration between wildlife biologists at UW and cartographers at the University of Oregon. The talk will take place in the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center. Free.

Thursday, Nov. 1, 7 p.m. -- Cowboy basketball vs. Colorado Christian University, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Thursday, Nov. 1, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO presents musical artists Wildermiss, Elk Tongue and Mady Lundblad in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. UW Pokes Vote will provide information on voter registration and political candidates at the event. Free.

Friday, Nov. 2, 4 p.m. -- Cowboy and Cowgirl swimming and diving vs. Colorado School of Mines, Corbett Building. Free.

Friday, Nov. 2, 4-5:30 p.m. -- The UW Alumni Association will host a Kickoff Friday event at the Alumni Center in the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center. The event will include light appetizers and a cash bar.

Friday, Nov. 2, 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. -- The 7220 Entertainment Films Committee and African American and Diaspora Studies will screen “BlacKkKlansman” in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Free.

Friday, Nov. 2, 6:30 p.m. -- Cowgirl basketball vs. Western State Colorado University, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Friday, Nov. 2, 7:30 p.m. -- Cirque Mechanics will perform in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium as part of the UW Presents fall lineup. Tickets cost $20 for the public; $17 for faculty, staff and senior citizens; and $10 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at  www.uwyo.edu/finearts .

Saturday, Nov. 3, noon -- Cowboy football vs. San Jose State, War Memorial Stadium.  Ticket prices  vary.

Saturday, Nov. 3, all day -- Cowboy wrestling hosts the Cowboy Open, War Memorial Fieldhouse. Ticket prices vary.

Sunday, Nov. 4, 1 p.m. -- UW’s Exercise is Medicine presents “Walk with a Doc” in War Memorial Fieldhouse. Free.
