International Education Week Events at UW Nov. 10

Events ranging from presentations on scholarship opportunities to photo contests and films are among activities planned for the University of Wyoming’s International Education Week Nov. 10-17. Events are free and open to the public.

The activities are sponsored by UW’s Global Engagement Office, which includes the Education Abroad Office, the International Students and Scholars Office, and the English Language Center. International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education.

Some of the highlights during the week are:

-- Saturday, Nov. 10, 1 p.m., “Viking Economics in Iceland,” Hilton Garden Inn conference room.

-- Monday, Nov. 12, 10 a.m.-noon, country display tables, Wyoming Union breezeway.

-- Tuesday, Nov. 13, 11 a.m.-noon, University of Glasgow Principia information session and student panel, Guthrie House, UW Honors College; and 5-6 p.m., College of Business education abroad opportunities and a student panel, College of Business Building, Room 123.

-- Wednesday, Nov. 14, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., “Passport Fair.” This service will provide expedited passport processing to applicants at no additional cost, Coe Library, Room 218; 11 a.m.-1 p.m., country spotlight: China, crafts and culture, Cheney International Center, basement lounge; and noon-1 p.m., “Education Abroad 101,” for those interested in studying, interning or volunteering abroad, Cheney International Center, Room 24.

-- Thursday, Nov. 15, 12:20-1:20 p.m., country spotlight: Spain, tapas and travel, Cheney International Center, Room 129; and 6 p.m., screening of “Salero,” a film by Mike Plunkett, Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center, Room 138.

-- Friday, Nov. 16, noon-1 p.m., country spotlight: Germany, exchange possibilities, Cheney International Center, Room 129; and 7 p.m., International Night, Wyoming Union Gardens.

-- Saturday, Nov. 17, 6 p.m., international etiquette dinner, with a Southeast Asia theme, Wyoming Union Ballroom. Information about etiquette and mealtime traditions will be shared.
