University of Wyoming Calendar for Nov. 26

These are among the activities scheduled Nov. 26-Dec. 2 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Nov. 26, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Peter Reiners, a professor in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Arizona. He will discuss “Is there a link between extraterrestrial dust flux, the marine lithologic record, and global biogeochemical cycles?” His talk will be in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the UW Geological Museum. Free.

Tuesday, Nov. 27, 12:20 p.m. -- The UW Division of Kinesiology and Health’s Intellectual Community Seminar Series presents Shaochen Huang, a doctoral student, and Taylor Kuehn, a master’s degree student, both in the division. Huang will discuss “Consistency of Visual and Kinesthetic Information in Producing the Intrinsic Bimanual Coordination Patter.” Kuehn will discuss “The Effect of Taping Quadriceps and Hamstrings on Knee Joint Position Sense and ACL Loading in a Fatigued Jump-landing Task.” The talks will take place in the Corbett Building, Room 137. Free.

Tuesday, Nov. 27, 6:30 p.m. -- Cowgirl basketball vs. Montana State University, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Tuesday, Nov. 27, 7 p.m. -- UW Planetarium show, “Two Small Pieces of Glass.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music presents Chorale by Candlelight at Laramie’s St. Matthew’s Cathedral. Tickets cost $10 for the public, $7 for senior citizens and $6 for students. Thursday, Nov. 29, 4-7 p.m. -- UW’s Safe Zone and Campus Activities Center present the final fall semester Safe Zone training in the Wyoming Union Senate Chambers. The final training will discuss “LGB 101,” “Gender Identity” and “Visible Ally.” Dinner will be provided. Free.

Thursday, Nov. 29, 4 p.m. -- UW professors Kent Drummond, Susan Aronstein and Terri Rittenburg will give a public reading of their new book, “The Road to Wicked: The Marketing and Consumption of Oz from L. Frank Baum to Broadway,” at Coe Library. Free.

Thursday, Nov. 29, 5:30-7 p.m. -- The UW Ceramic Art Guild will host its 30th annual benefit silent auction in the Visual Arts Building lobby. Viewing will begin at 1 p.m.

Thursday, Nov. 29, 6 p.m. -- UW’s 7220 Entertainment and StudioWYO present a student art show in the Wyoming Union Skylight Lounge. Free.

Thursday, Nov. 29, 6 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum presents the “Lighting of the Trees” reception at the museum. The evening includes a silent auction, as well as dance and musical performances. Free.

Thursday, Nov. 29, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO presents an open mic night with JD Korpitz in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Friday, Nov. 30, noon -- The UW Center for Global Studies presents Anthony Ogden, UW’s associate vice provost for global engagement. Ogden will discuss “What We Know and Need to Know: Research on Short-Term Education Abroad” in the Cheney International Center, Room 229. Free.

Friday, Nov. 30, 6 p.m. -- The Bettys, UW’s female a cappella group, will present a fall concert in the UW College of Education auditorium. Free.

Friday, Nov. 30, 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. -- The 7220 Entertainment Films Committee will screen “Fireworks” in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Free.

Saturday, Dec. 1, 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host Happy Holidays Laramie Festival of Trees. The annual event will include dance and musical performances by local choral groups, student musicians and dance companies. Families are invited to have their pictures taken with Santa Claus and to create ornaments, cards and other holiday decorations. Free.
