University of Wyoming Calendar for March 4

These are among the activities scheduled March 4-10 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, March 4, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Julie Loisel, from Texas A&M University. She will discuss “Integrating Expert Judgment with Evidence-Based Science: the Good, the Bad and the Ugly” in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the UW Geological Museum. Free.

Monday, March 4, 5 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will kick off a monthlong art celebration with “Night at the Museum.” This family-friendly event will offer opportunities to look at contemporary art and try out art-making activities. Free dinner will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Monday, March 4, 6:30-9 p.m. and Tuesday, March 5, 8:30-10:30 a.m. -- The Wyoming State Science Fair will be at UW once again. The public is invited to view student posters in the UW Conference Center. Free.

Monday, March 4, 6:30 p.m. -- Cowgirl basketball vs. San Jose State University, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Tuesday, March 5, 7 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium show, “This Month’s Sky.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics/ and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Wednesday, March 6, 12:10-12:50 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host “Lunchtime Conversations with Curators,” an informal gallery walk-through. The 44th annual Juried UW Student Exhibition will be featured. Lunch will be provided following the gallery walk-through. Free.

Thursday, March 7, 4-6 p.m. -- The University of Wyoming’s Office of Engagement and Outreach will host an open house in the Bureau of Mines Building, Room 231. Free.

Thursday, March 7, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO will host a singer-songwriter night in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, March 7-Saturday, March 9, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Theatre and Dance presents “Spring to Dance” on the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts main stage. Tickets cost $14 for the public, $11 for senior citizens and $7 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Thursday, March 7, 7:30 p.m. -- Six UW student finalists will perform as soloists with the UW Symphony Orchestra as part of the Dorothy Jacoby Concerto Competition. The event will take place in the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $12 for the public, $8 for senior citizens and $6 for students. Thursday, March 7, 8 p.m. -- The 7220 Entertainment Large Scale Events Committee presents singer Jesse McCartney in the College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Tickets cost $20 for the public and $10 for UW students. Meet-and-greet passes are $40 each. Passes do not include event tickets. Friday, March 8, noon -- UW’s Restoration Outreach and Research Club will host Elizabeth Leger, from the University of Nevada-Reno. She will discuss “Comparative Ecology of Plants in Arid Systems” in the Agriculture Building, Room 41. Free.

Friday, March 8, 2 p.m. -- Michael Punke, an Amazon executive and former U.S. ambassador, who is originally from Torrington, will discuss his career in government and business in the Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center auditorium. Free.

Friday, March 8, 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. -- The 7220 Entertainment Films Committee will screen “Aquaman” in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Free.

Friday, March 8-Saturday, March 9, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music presents guest artists Globe Saxophone Quartet in the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.

Saturday, March 9, 11 a.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium show, “Good Morning, Sun.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Sunday, March 10, 3 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music’s Faculty Recital Series continues with Theresa Bogard, piano, and Crystal Sieger, French horn, in the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.
