University of Wyoming Presents’ spring concert series continues with the Danish String Quartet, among the world’s premier chamber music groups, Thursday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.

Tickets cost $15 for the public, $12 for senior citizens and UW faculty and staff, and $10 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

“The Danish String Quartet visited campus for the first time in October 2014, and UW Presents has been patiently waiting five years to bring them back to campus ever since,” says Philip Moline, UW Presents director.

The quartet will feature works by Beethoven and some traditional Nordic folk music during the group’s stop on the UW campus.

The quartet debuted in 2002 and, since then, has performed predominantly Scandinavian music across North America and Europe, while also creating special projects to reach new audiences. In 2007, the group created the DSQ Festival, which takes place in an informal and small venue in Copenhagen.

The Danish String Quartet has won numerous awards, including the Vagn Holmboe String Quartet competition in the Netherlands, the Eleventh London International String Quartet Competition and the Carl Nielsen Prize -- the highest cultural honor in Denmark.

The group also was nominated for a Grammy in 2018 and made an appearance at the ceremony during its 2019 North American tour.

“This concert date has been in the works for the last three years, evidence of the quartet’s incredibly high demand during their limited U.S. tours,” Moline says. “During the group’s 20-day visit, they are visiting four states; making a stop in Canada; giving 14 performances with seven outreach events; as well as making a stop at the Grammys.”

Each year, UW Presents brings a variety of internationally known performers to campus, often at ticket prices much less than at larger venues. This season features five performances during the spring semester.

The three remaining performances in the spring are: the Jeff Hamilton Trio, Thursday, March 14; the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, Tuesday, April 9; and Daniel Hsu, Friday, May 3.
