UW Trustees Approve Appointment of Interim Agriculture Dean

February 21, 2019

A longtime faculty member in the University of Wyoming’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources has returned from retirement to provide interim leadership for the college.

Mark Stayton, who was granted the title of emeritus associate professor when he retired from the Department of Molecular Biology in 2017, will serve as interim dean of the college until a permanent dean is appointed as a result of an ongoing search. That is expected this summer.

The UW Board of Trustees approved the interim appointment during its regular meeting Wednesday.

Stayton, who received his Ph.D. in biochemistry and biophysics from Iowa State University, joined the UW faculty in 1998. He served as head of the Department of Molecular Biology from 2007-2015 and was interim associate dean/director of academic and student programs in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources from 2015-17.

In other business, the Board of Trustees Wednesday authorized negotiation of a contract with Shepard Construction Inc., of Rawlins, to renovate UW’s Tobin House to provide housing for 65 students. The project, which will be funded by Division of Student Affairs’ operating funds, is not expected to exceed $1 million.
