Three Safe Zone Trainings Scheduled in April at UW

The University of Wyoming’s Safe Zone will host three trainings during April. Each training will be in Room 315 of the Wyoming Union at noon.

“Safe Zone trainings allow students to learn about the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex and asexual or allied (LGBTQIA) community and discover something about themselves, education, collaboration and advocacy,” says Sarah Devine, the Campus Activities Center (CAC) marketing coordinator.

The first training, Friday, April 5, will discuss lesbian, gay and bisexual 101; the second training, Friday, April 12, will discuss gender identity; and the third training, Friday, April 19, will discuss Safe Zone’s “Visible Ally” training.

All trainings are free, with lunch provided.

Safe Zone aims to create an inclusive environment for the LGBTQIA community through discussions about tolerance and acceptance. The program’s goal is to educate individuals on the issues facing the LGBTQIA community and to provide tools to become allies.

“Safe Zone at UW offers a variety of training sessions that cover topics from inequalities in the everyday lives of LGBTQIA individuals to health care issues specific to members of the LGBTQIA communities,” Devine says.
