University of Wyoming Calendar for March 25

These are among the activities scheduled March 25-31 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, March 25, noon -- The World to Wyoming Lecture Series presents Mark Jenkins, an adventurer and the Wyoming Excellence Writer in Residence. He will discuss “A Journey into the Ancient Namib Desert: Rock Paintings, a Vanished People and Water Scarcity” in the UW College of Education auditorium. Free.

Monday, March 25, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Ken Sims, a professor in the department. His talk will take place in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the UW Geological Museum. Free.

Monday, March 25, 5:30 p.m. -- The Center for Global Studies hosts the annual Wyoming Goes Global Conference in the Wyoming Union Center Ballroom. Students and faculty will share their international research on complex issues from around the world. Free.

Tuesday, March 26, 12:20 p.m. -- The UW Division of Kinesiology and Health’s Intellectual Community Seminar Series presents Stavros Kavouras, a professor in the College of Health Solutions at Arizona State University. He will discuss “Hydration: A Drop of Information in the Ocean of Opinions.” The talk will take place in the Corbett Building, Room 137. Free.

Tuesday, March 26, 7 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium full-dome movie double feature: “Seeing” and “Cosmic Origin Spectrograph.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Wednesday, March 27, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music presents guest cellist Carl Donakowski in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.           

Thursday, March 28, 4 p.m. -- Jack Halberstam will present the Bruce Richardson Lecture in the Humanities in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Halberstam is a professor of gender studies and English at Columbia University. Free.

Thursday, March 28, 6 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host a gallery walk-through featuring student award winners from the 44th annual Juried UW Student Exhibition. Free.

Thursday, March 28, 6 p.m. -- The UW Society of Women Engineers (SWE) will host Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day. The film “Dream Big” will be screened, followed by a question-and-answer session with a panel of SWE members. The event will take place at the UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium. Free.

Thursday, March 28, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO hosts Open Mic Night with Hunter Hicks in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, March 28, 8:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music presents a student viola recital in the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.

Friday, March 29, 8 a.m.-8:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 30, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. -- UW’s Symposium on Transformative Education in Prison and Beyond takes place at the UW Conference Center. The symposium will consist of various panel discussions, interactive workshops and addresses by leaders in the field. Damon Horowitz and Jody Lewen are scheduled keynote speakers. Free.

Friday, March 29, noon -- UW’s School of Energy Resources 2019 Spring Speaker Series presents Lars Kotthoff, a UW assistant professor of computer science. He will discuss “An Introduction to Machine Learning, with Applications in Engineering” in the Energy Innovation Center’s Encana Auditorium. Boxed lunches will be provided. Free.

Friday, March 29, 2 p.m. -- Cowgirl tennis vs. University of New Mexico, UW Tennis Complex. Free.
