Daniel Hsu, a 21-year-old pianist, will perform at the University of Wyoming Friday, May 3, to wrap up the UW Presents spring series.

Hsu, who performed at UW in 2016, will perform in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $15 for the public; $12 for UW faculty and staff, and senior citizens; and $10 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Hsu began taking piano lessons when he was just 6 years old; made his debut with the Fremont Symphony Orchestra when he was 8; and was accepted into the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia at age 10.

Since then, he has played with orchestras in Philadelphia, Pa.; North Carolina; Grand Rapids, Mich.; New Haven, Conn.; Fort Worth, Texas; and in Tokyo. Hsu also has played in Carnegie Hall, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles and Portland. He has won numerous awards for his music.

“As a winner of several prestigious competitions, including the 2015 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition, the 2016 Gilmore Young Artist award and, most recently, the bronze medalist at the 2017 Van Cliburn Competition, Daniel Hsu is a pianist gaining a serious reputation for someone so young,” says Philip Moline, the director of UW Presents. “UW Presents is delighted to host him on campus for a full week, first performing with the UW Symphony Orchestra Thursday, May 2, followed by a solo recital Friday, May 3.”

When he is not playing the piano, Hsu enjoys programming. He contributed to the creation of Workflow, an app that allows users to automate tasks on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. The app won the coveted 2015 Apple Design Award.
