University of Wyoming Calendar for May 6

These are among the activities scheduled May 6-12 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, May 6, 9 a.m. -- The Wyoming Center on Aging, based at UW, hosts a health workshop for people with chronic health conditions and their friends, family and caregivers. The workshop will be at the Eppson Center for Seniors, located at 1560 N. Third St. in Laramie. Free.

Monday, May 6, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Cherie Achilles, a postdoctoral researcher at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. She will discuss “Exploring the Rocks and Sediments of Gale Crater, Mars” in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the UW Geological Museum. Free.

Monday, May 6, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music’s Community Band and Civic Chorus present their spring concert in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $10 for the public, $7 for senior citizens and $6 for students. Tuesday, May 7, 12:20 p.m. -- The UW Division of Kinesiology and Health’s Intellectual Community Seminar Series presents Tucker Readdy, an associate professor in the division. He will discuss “Exploring Facilitated Reflective Practice: Learning from the Experiences of a First-Year Volunteer Assistant Volleyball Coach.” The talk will take place in the Corbett Building, Room 137. Free.

Tuesday, May 7, 7 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium show, “This Month’s Sky.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Wednesday, May 8, 3:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Modern and Classical Languages will host a special viewing of Federico Garcia Lorca’s “Bodas de Sangre” (“Blood Wedding”), a folk tragedy, in the Classroom Building, Room 222. The videotaped performance of the play involves Campbell County High School (CCHS) students and features New York performing artist David Gonzalez as the director and CCHS Spanish teacher Renee Fritzen as the assistant director. Free.

Wednesday, May 8 and Thursday, May 9, 7:30 p.m. -- UW’s Department of Theatre and Dance presents “Fight or Flight” in the Performing Arts Studio Theatre. Tickets cost $4.50. Friday, May 10 -- Last day of UW classes for the spring semester.

Friday, May 10, 11 a.m. -- UW’s Center for Student Involvement and Leadership will host the annual year-end Union Fest for UW students. Activities include free food, yard games and live music in the Wyoming Union, on Simpson Plaza and in Prexy’s Pasture throughout the day. Free.

Friday, May 10, 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. -- UW’s 7220 Entertainment Club Events Committee will host DJ Zimbo in Simpson Plaza as part of Union Fest. Free.

Friday, May 10, 1-4 p.m. -- UW students will present research projects noting the 150th anniversary of women’s suffrage in Wyoming and the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in the nation in the American Heritage Center’s Wyoming Stock Growers Room. A reception will follow. Free.

Friday, May 10, 5 p.m. -- UW’s 7220 Entertainment Large Scale Events Committee will host rock band Plain White T’s on Prexy’s Pasture as part of Union Fest. Free.

Friday, May 10, 7:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. -- UW’s 7220 Entertainment Films Committee will screen “Ralph Breaks the Internet” at 7:30 p.m. and “Ready Player One” at 9:45 p.m. in the Wyoming Union West Ballroom. Free.

Friday, May 10, 8 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium show, “Eyes Up, Everyone.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement.
