David Jones, who has led the University of Wyoming College of Health Sciences for the past two years on an interim basis, has been chosen as the college’s dean.

The UW Board of Trustees last week approved the appointment of Jones, a longtime UW administrator and UW Division of Communications Disorders faculty member.

“Dr. Jones has the support of the people in the College of Health Sciences, and he has demonstrated strong leadership and articulated a vision for the college,” Provost Kate Miller says. “We have great confidence that he will lead the college to new levels of excellence.”

Before being named interim dean of the college in 2017, he served as UW’s vice president for academic affairs from May 2014 to July 2016. A member of the UW faculty since 2001, he was the associate dean for academic affairs in the College of Health Sciences from 2007-2013.

“The College of Health Sciences fills a vital role in Wyoming by graduating health care professionals to serve communities around the state, and by providing clinical services to the people of Wyoming,” Jones says. “I’m delighted to work with our outstanding students, faculty, staff and constituents to fulfill this mission to an even greater degree.”

A graduate of Westminster College (Pa., 1980) with a B.S. in biology and the University of Iowa with an M.A. (1983) and Ph.D. (1987) in speech pathology, Jones taught at the University of Iowa and Indiana University Medical Center at Indianapolis before joining the faculty at UW in 2001.
