UW to Host EducationUSA Representatives from Four Countries Aug. 2

The University of Wyoming will host four global advisers from EducationUSA to highlight the opportunities available to international students. They will be on campus Aug. 2-6.

The four international advisers are Gulmira Abdyrahmanova, from Turkmenistan; Rachael Jiménez-Lange, from Chile; Scott Louis Simonson, from Serbia; and Placide Tankoano, from Burkina Faso.

The advisers will spend four days experiencing life in Wyoming and learning about educational programs and student life. Activities scheduled include meeting with UW officials and students, a trip to the Snowy Range and a visit to the UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium. The advisers also will visit Northwest College in Powell for a day.

The EducationUSA representatives’ visit to Wyoming was made possible through a proposal written by Ryan Goeken, a senior project coordinator for the UW Science Initiative.

“EducationUSA centers are some students’ first contact with the U.S. education system,” Goeken says. “The EducationUSA advisers are well-trained, unbiased representatives for U.S. higher education, in general, but, a visit to Wyoming would give them first-hand experiences with the things that make an education in Wyoming valuable and unique.”

EducationUSA is a U.S. Department of State network with more than 425 international student advising centers in 170 countries. EducationUSA offers relevant and current information to students around the world looking to study in the U.S. at accredited universities.

“This is the first time we will be hosting advisers from EducationUSA, and we couldn’t be more proud or excited to showcase all the great things happening at UW,” says Jill Johnson, International Students and Scholars director. “The visit from EducationUSA will serve to raise the profile of UW and provide valuable information about the academic opportunities, while also highlighting the beauty of Wyoming to our visitors.”
