Andrew Hoffman, the Holcim Professor of Sustainable Enterprise at the University of Michigan, will discuss personal environmental stewardship Thursday, Sept. 12, at the University of Wyoming.

He will discuss “Finding Purpose: Environmental Stewardship as a Personal Calling” at 7 p.m. in the UW College of Business auditorium. His free public talk is part of the UW Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources Distinguished Speaker Series, in partnership with the College of Business. A reception will follow his talk.

Hoffman’s research explores the institutional aspects of environmental issues within businesses and organizations. He focuses on the emergence and evolution of environmental topics as they relate to social, political and managerial issues. Hoffman’s Holcim Sustainable Enterprise professorship holds appointments in both the Stephen M. Ross School of Business and School for Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan.

Hoffman recently received the Responsible Research in Management Award. His other awards and honors include the Aspen Institute Ideas Worth Teaching Award; the American Chemical Society National Award; and the Aldo Leopold Fellowship.

He has published 16 books in six languages, and more than 100 articles and book chapters. Hoffman also served on research committees for the National Academy of Sciences, the Johnson Foundation, the Climate Group, and the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development. Hoffman worked for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Amoco Corp. before developing a career in academics.

The Haub School Distinguished Speaker Series is a forum for environmental and natural resource leaders to share stories and inspire communities. The College of Business sustainable business practices serve to enhance the business community’s long-term economic sustainability by analyzing environmental footprints and understanding essential relationships among stakeholders.
