The University of Wyoming Chamber Orchestra will feature two viola soloists during its concert Sunday, Sept. 29.

João Machado, a violist from Brazil, and James Przygocki, a UW professor of music, will perform with the UW Chamber Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Przygocki also will conduct.

Tickets cost $10 for the public, $7 for senior citizens and $6 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu.finearts.

The program will include J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 and Brandenburg Concerto No. 6; Mozart’s “Adagio and Fugue in C Minor”; and Alan Hovhannes’ “Alleluia and Fugue.”

Machado teaches viola, chamber music and theory classes, and conducts the string orchestra at the University of Brasília. He has played with the Orchestra of the National Theater Cláudio Santoro in Brasília, Brazil, since 2014. Machado has a viola-piano duo with his wife, Larissa Paggioli. Together, they have developed a project to encourage the formation of new audiences in Brazil.

He earned a Doctor of Arts in violin performance/pedagogy from the University of Northern Colorado, and he has a master’s degree in violin performance from UW, where he studied with John Fadial, UW professor of violin.

Przygocki teaches viola, violin, music education and pedagogy courses. He serves as principal violist with the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra, teaches at the String Academy of Wyoming and directs the UW String Project. In the summer, Przygocki is a faculty member at the Indiana University Summer String Academy and the Rocky Ridge Music Center in Estes Park, Colo.

He is an active performer as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player. He has performed in Europe, China, Brazil, Canada and around the U.S. He plays chamber music with the Summit Chamber Players, a faculty ensemble at UW.
