C-SPAN to Highlight Laramie, UW History, Authors

C-SPAN's Cities Tour is visiting Laramie and the University of Wyoming Oct. 6-10 to record the history and nonfiction literary life of the city.

Interviews with local authors and filming in the Laramie area will be for the cable network’s Book TV on C-SPAN2 and American History TV on C-SPAN3.

In conjunction with local cable provider Spectrum, the C-SPAN Cities Tour producers will visit various literary and historic sites, and interview local historians and nonfiction authors in the Laramie area.

Local segments recorded during the C-SPAN visit will air on Book TV locally on Spectrum channels 19 and 618, and American History TV on Spectrum channels 13 and 619 Nov. 2-3 during a special feature “Laramie, Wyoming.”

Laramie programming highlights include:

-- Interview with Mayor Joe Shumway.

American History TV programming highlights include:

-- Laramie Plains Museum.

-- Deerwood Ranch Wild Horse EcoSanctuary.

-- Wyoming House for Historic Women.

-- Wyoming Territorial Prison historic site.

Book TV programming authors and their books include:

-- UW Professor Jeff Lockwood, "Behind the Carbon Curtain: The Energy Industry, Political Censorship, and Free Speech.”

-- David Kruger, UW librarian, "J.C. Penney: The Man, the Store, and American Agriculture."

-- UW Professor Tracy Owens Patton and UW graduate Sally Schedlock, "Gender, Whiteness, and Power in Rodeo: Breaking Away from the Ties of Sexism and Racism."

-- UW Professor Renee Laegreid, "Women on the North American Plains."

The C-SPAN Cities Tour is exploring the American story -- traveling the country to feature the literary life and history of American cities on Book TV and American History TV channels the first and third weekend of each month.
