University of Wyoming Calendar for Oct. 14

These are among the activities scheduled Oct. 14-20 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Oct. 14-Saturday, Oct. 19 -- Homecoming Week at UW. For a schedule of events, go to www.uwyo.edu/homecoming.

Monday, Oct. 14, 4 p.m. -- New York Times bestselling author Terese Mailhot will discuss “Rising to the Occasion of a Dream” in Coe Library, Room 506. Her talk is part of UW’s School of Culture, Gender and Social Justice Fall Speaker Series. Free.

Monday, Oct. 14, 8 p.m. -- Comedian Jenny Zigrino, with special guest Jasmine Ellis, will perform in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Free.

Tuesday, Oct. 15, 7 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium full-dome movie, “Dawn of the Space Age.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Tuesday, Oct. 15, 7 p.m. -- The UW College of Law presents Itzchak Kornfeld, of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He will discuss “The Human Right to Water on the Wind River Indian Reservation” in the UW College of Law Building, Room 178. Free.

Tuesday, Oct. 15, 7 p.m. -- The UW Creative Writing Program presents an alumni guest author public reading at Night Heron Books, located at 107 E. Ivinson Ave. in Laramie. Chelsea Biondolillo will read from “The Skinned Bird,” and Caleb Johnson will read from “Treeborne.” Free.

Wednesday, Oct. 16, 6:30 p.m. -- The American Constitution Society at UW will host Frank Bowman III, a professor of law at the University of Missouri. He will talk about his recently published book, “High Crimes and Misdemeanors: A History of Impeachment for the Age of Trump,” in the UW College of Law Building, Room 178. Free.

Wednesday, Oct. 16-Saturday, Oct. 19, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 20, 2 p.m. -- The UW Department of Theatre and Dance will host “Present Laughter,” a comedy by Noel Coward. Performances will take place on the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts main stage. Tickets cost $14 for the public, $11 for senior citizens and $7 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Thursday, Oct. 17, 6 p.m. -- The UW College of Law will host “Herrera v. Wyoming: The Way Forward on American Indian Treaty Rights,” a panel discussion, in the UW College of Law’s large moot courtroom. Registration is required. To register, go to www.wyomingbar.org.

Thursday, Oct. 17, 6 p.m. -- Heather Leach, an assistant professor at Colorado State University, will discuss the benefits of physical activity after a cancer diagnosis. She also will discuss evidence-based strategies used to promote physical activity among cancer survivors. Her talk will be in the UW College of Business Building’s Scarlett Auditorium. UW’s Phi Epsilon Kappa chapter, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Open School Chapter at UW, Exercise is Medicine On Campus and the UW Human Physiology Club will host the talk. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 17, 6 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host “Read, Rant, Relate: Partnership with Relative Theatrics.” A reading of Lauren Gunderson’s “Bauer” will be performed. The reading is presented in conjunction with “The Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection: Fifty Works for Wyoming” art exhibition. A discussion by UW Assistant Professor Patrick Konesko will follow the reading. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 17, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO presents Jazz Jam Night with the Lora Sherrodd Quartet. The concert will be in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 17, 8 p.m. -- UW’s Cowboy Country Swing Club will host The Richie Law Band in War Memorial Fieldhouse. Free.

Friday, Oct. 18, 8-11 a.m. -- The Wyoming Institute for Disabilities will host a community open house to celebrate its 25th anniversary. A light breakfast will be served in the UW College of Health Sciences Building, first floor, east atrium. Free.

Friday, Oct. 18, 10:30 a.m. -- John List, a 2019 UW Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, will discuss “What Can We Learn from Uber?” in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. List is the Kenneth C. Griffin Distinguished Service Professor in Economics at the University of Chicago. A reception will follow his talk. Free.

Friday, Oct. 18, 3 p.m. -- Cowgirl soccer vs. Boise State University, Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. Free.

Friday, Oct. 18, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW College of Engineering and Applied Science will host Jerad Stack, the H.T. Person Distinguished Speaker. Stack is the Wyoming Technology Business Center director in Casper.  He will discuss how engineering, technology and the “fourth industrial revolution” are changing the world. His talk will be in the UW Engineering Education and Research Building, Room 255. Free.

Friday, Oct. 18, 4 p.m. -- The UW College of Arts and Sciences’ annual Keith and Thyra Thomson Honors Convocation will recognize A&S students who have made various honor rolls. The program includes a keynote presentation by Gov. Mark Gordon and student presentations. The convocation will take place in the A&S auditorium. Free.

Friday, Oct. 18, 4 p.m. -- Cowgirl and Cowboy swimming and diving vs. Air Force Academy, Laramie High School. Free.

Friday, Oct. 18, 5:30 p.m. -- The Larsh Bristol Photojournalism Fellowship exhibition will open in Ross Hall, Room 442. Fellowship winners Christina DeLong and Michael Gjellum will talk about their photographs and the stories behind their projects. Free.

Friday, Oct. 18, 6:30 p.m. -- UW’s 7220 Entertainment Films Committee will host a screening of “On the Basis of Sex” in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Free popcorn and drinks for the first 30 people will be provided. Free.

Friday, Oct. 18, 8 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium show, “Dust, Light, Dust.” The STAR Observatory on the rooftop of the Physical Sciences Building will be open to the public for a “star party” from 8:30-9:30 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Saturday, Oct. 19, 9 a.m. -- The UW Homecoming parade begins at Ninth Street and Ivinson Avenue.

Saturday, Oct. 19, 9 a.m.-Sunday, Oct. 20, 9 a.m. -- The UW Tri Delta sorority will host its annual 24-hour pancake breakfast fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The event will take place at the Tri Delta sorority house, located at 1616 E. Sorority Row. Tickets are $5 per entry and $20 for unlimited entries.  

Saturday, Oct. 19, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. -- The UW Geological Museum and the Wyoming State Geological Survey will host “Wyoming ROCKS: Geology in Everyday Life -- Today and in the Past” at the UW Geological Museum. Activities will include rock art painting, rock ID kits, a scavenger hunt and a virtual field trip. Free.

Saturday, Oct. 19, 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium show, “Wyoming ROCKS Presents: Exoplanets.” Free.

Saturday, Oct. 19, 1 p.m. -- Cowboy football vs. University of New Mexico, War Memorial Stadium. Ticket prices vary.

Saturday, Oct. 19, 5 p.m. -- UW’s Associated Students Interested in China will host a dance performance by the Colorado Asian Cultural Heritage Center Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe. The group will perform a traditional dance in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Free.

Saturday, Oct. 19, 5:30 p.m. -- UW’s Chinese Students and Scholars Association will host a Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. The event is free, but tickets are required.

Sunday, Oct. 20, 1 p.m. -- Cowgirl soccer vs. Utah State University, Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. Free.
