University of Wyoming Calendar for Oct. 21

These are among the activities scheduled Oct. 21-27 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Oct. 21, 5:30 p.m. -- University of Wyoming Libraries will host a screening of “Paywall: The Business of Scholarship” as part of International Open Access Week. The documentary focuses on the need for open access to research and science, and questions the rationale behind the $25.2 billion a year that flows into for-profit academic publishers. The screening will be in Coe Library, Room 506. Free.

Tuesday, Oct. 22, 7 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium full-dome movie, “Phantom of the Universe.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Thursday, Oct. 24, 4 p.m. -- The UW Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies presents Menachem Mor, a scholar of Jewish history. Mor will discuss “Exile and Restoration in the Samaritan Tradition” in the Classroom Building, Room 215. A reception will follow. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 24, 5 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host a screening of “Herb & Dorothy 50x50,” a film about art collectors Herb and Dorothy Vogel, in the UW Art Museum Classroom. “The Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection: Fifty Works for Wyoming” exhibition is on view through March 21, 2020. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 24, 6:30 p.m. -- Cowgirl volleyball vs. the University of Nevada, UniWyo Sports Complex. Ticket prices vary.

Thursday, Oct. 24, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO presents Hunter Hicks, Shawn Hess and The Country Skillet/The Twaynes. The concert will be in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.  

Thursday, Oct. 24, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music presents drummer Ari Hoenig in concert with the Wyoming Jazz Ensemble in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets are $12 for the public, $8 for senior citizens and $6 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Friday, Oct. 25, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. -- The 2019 Landscape Discussion on Energy Law and Policy in the Rockies will take place in the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center. The UW School of Energy Resources and the UW College of Law’s Center for Law and Energy Resources in the Rockies will host the event. The one-day symposium will cover current energy topics, including the energy transition, hot topics in oil and gas, and legal uncertainty in coal country. Friday, Oct. 25, 4 p.m. -- The UW Alumni Association will host a Kickoff Friday event at the Alumni Center in the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center. The event will include light appetizers and a cash bar.

Friday, Oct. 25, 4:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Anthropology Fall Seminar Series presents Rachael Budowle, an assistant professor in the UW Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources. Budowle will discuss “Growing Intergenerational Resilience for Indigenous Food Sovereignty” in the UW Anthropology Building, Room 150. Free.

Friday, Oct. 25-Saturday, Oct. 26, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Theatre and Dance, in cooperation with the UW Honors College, presents Paul O’Mahony and Troels Hagen Findsen in their two-man production of “Macbeth.” The two will perform on the Performing Arts main stage. Tickets cost $14 for the public, $11 for senior citizens and $7 for students. Friday, Oct. 25, 8-11 p.m. -- UW’s 7220 Entertainment Films and Late-Night Events committees will host “Rocky Horror Picture Show Extravaganza.” The feature performance will be a shadow cast edition of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” There will be a costume contest, mini-pumpkin painting, a mummy-wrapping contest and a Halloween-themed photo booth. The events will take place in the upper level of the Wyoming Union. The extravaganza is free and open to the public, but only UW students may compete for prizes.

Saturday, Oct. 26, 2 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music’s MANCAMP and Wyoming Women of Song vocal festivals will conclude with a concert in the Performing Arts concert hall. The concert will feature the UW Singing Statesmen, the Happy Jacks, Bel Canto Women’s Chorus and festival participants. Free.

Saturday, Oct. 26, noon -- Cowboy football vs. University of Nevada, War Memorial Stadium. Ticket prices vary.
