University of Wyoming Calendar for Oct. 28

These are among the activities scheduled Oct. 28-Nov. 3 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Oct. 28, 4:30 p.m. -- Polly Beale, an award-winning marketing strategist and creative director, will discuss “Creativity, Gender, Bias and Innovation in Marketing” in the UW College of Business Building, Room 123. Her talk is part of UW’s School of Culture, Gender and Social Justice Fall Speaker Series. Free.

Monday, Oct. 28, 7:30 p.m. -- Wyoming Public Media will host National Public Radio humorist and author David Sedaris at the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with book signings before and after the show. Tickets are $35 for the public and $20 for UW students. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 7 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium full-dome movie, “Dark Matter Mystery.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Wednesday, Oct. 30, 4 p.m. -- The Association of Wyoming Student Makers will host “The Joy of P(r)ainting.” Attendees will learn how to paint Halloween-themed 3D prints in the Engineering Student Innovation Center Makerspace, located in the UW Engineering Education and Research Building. Halloween costumes are optional, but a prize will be given to the participant voted to have the best costume. Free.

Wednesday, Oct. 30, 7 p.m. -- Cowboy basketball vs. Northwest Nazarene University, Arena-Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for the public.

Wednesday, Oct. 30, 8 p.m. -- UW’s 7220 Entertainment Club Events Committee will host musician and remixer PLS&TY. The show will take place in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 31, 4-7 p.m. -- UW, in conjunction with Fraternity and Sorority Life, and Residence Life and Dining Services, will host Safe Treat in the lower level of Washakie Dining Center and on UW’s Fraternity and Sorority Row. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 31, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO presents Open Mic Night with Shawn Hess. The show will be held in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 31, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Collegiate Chorale will present “The Spirits Among Us” in the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets are $12 for the public, $8 for senior citizens and $6 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.   

Thursday, Oct. 31, 8 p.m. -- UW’s Cowboy Country Swing Club will host a Halloween dance in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. There will be candy and a costume contest. The line dance to “Thriller” will be taught. Free.

Friday, Nov. 1, noon -- UW’s School of Politics, Public Affairs and International Studies will host Milward L. Simpson Visiting Fulbright Professor James Arvanitakis. His talk, “From Despair to Hope,” will be in the UW College of Arts and Sciences Building, Room 139. Free. 

Friday, Nov. 1, 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. -- UW’s 7220 Entertainment Films Committee will screen “Spider-Man: Far From Home” in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Free.

Friday, Nov. 1, 6:30 p.m. -- Cowgirl basketball vs. Adams State University, Arena-Auditorium. Tickets are $5. 

Saturday, Nov. 2, all day -- Cowboy wrestling hosts the Cowboy Open, War Memorial Fieldhouse. Ticket prices vary.

Saturday, Nov. 2, 1 p.m. -- Cowgirl volleyball vs. Air Force. UniWyo Sports Complex. Ticket prices vary.

Saturday, Nov. 2, 7:30 p.m. -- UW’s 7220 Above Cabaret presents “A Miscast Cabaret” in the Performing Arts Studio Theatre. Tickets cost $4.50. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Sunday, Nov. 3, 3 p.m. -- UW’s Bel Canto Women’s Chorus presents “Wyoming Suffrage -- A Celebration” in the Performing Arts concert hall. The musical celebration will feature music for and by women. Following the concert, an exhibition of artistic works by students from different departments will be on display. Tickets are $10 for the public, $7 for senior citizens and $6 for students. Sunday, Nov. 3, 7:30 p.m. -- Ballet Hispanico, a world-class dance company, will perform in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium as part of the UW Presents fall lineup. Tickets cost $20 for the public; $17 for senior citizens, and UW faculty and staff; and $10 for students.
