Brass band Slavic Soul Party! will bring its Balkan-soul-Gypsy-funk style of music to the University of Wyoming Thursday, Nov. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. The band will be the last performance of the fall UW Presents season.

Tickets for the performance cost $15 for the public; $12 for senior citizens, and UW faculty and staff; and $10 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Slavic Soul Party!, a New York City-based band, has throbbing funk grooves, fiery Balkan brass, Gypsy accordion wizardry and virtuoso jazz chops, according to its website. The band has released seven full-length albums over the past 15 years and has toured the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Europe, Turkey and Zimbabwe.

In 2016, the group released “Slavic Soul Party! Plays Duke Ellington’s Far East Suite.” It is a reimagining of Duke Ellington’s 1967 “Far East Suite,” as an “Eastern European brass brand discovering an exotic American sound,” according to its website. The album is a blend of Eastern European, Romani and American sounds.

The next UW Presents program will feature Piano Battle, a piano duo that goes head-to-head onstage, Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts concert hall. The spring 2020 UW Presents season will feature five performances.

Each year, UW Presents brings a variety of internationally known performers to the UW campus, often at ticket prices much less than at larger venues. UW Presents assists the university in its broad educational mission by presenting a balanced program of music, theater and dance, featuring performances by artists of national and international distinction.

All shows take place in either the Performing Arts Center or the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium.

For more information, call Philip Moline, director of UW Presents, at (307) 766-5139 or email pmoline@uwyo.edu.
