University of Wyoming Calendar for Feb. 24-March 1

These are among the activities scheduled Feb. 24-March 1 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Feb. 24, 5 p.m. -- As part of Black History Month events at UW, “The Assassination of Sandra Bland” will be screened in Coe Library, Room 123. Free.

Monday, Feb. 24, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Faculty Jazz Quintet will present a concert in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.

Tuesday, Feb. 25, 5:15 p.m. -- Cena Cinemaque, the UW Classics Film Series, presents Jean Cocteau’s “Orphee” in the UW Classroom Building, Room 129. Pizza will be available at 5:15 p.m., followed by an introduction to the film. The film screening will begin about 5:30 p.m. For questions or to RSVP, email Laura De Lozier, UW Classics section coordinator, at delozier@uwyo.edu. Free.

Tuesday, Feb. 25, 7 p.m. -- Cowboy basketball vs. University of Nevada, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Tuesday, Feb. 25, 7 p.m. -- The UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium presents “Our Wyoming Sky” in the Physical Sciences Building basement. Tickets cost $3 for students and $5 for nonstudents. Tickets for children under age 5 are free. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics/planetarium.

Wednesday, Feb. 26, 9-11:30 a.m. -- The Wyoming Center on Aging, based at UW, will host Healthy U, a health workshop for people managing chronic pain and their friends, family and caregivers. The workshop will be at the Eppson Center for Seniors, located at 1560 N. Third St. in Laramie. There is no cost to attend. To register, call (307) 766-2765 or email dduhamel@uwyo.edu.

Thursday, Feb. 27, 5 p.m. -- A soul food dinner will be hosted at St. Paul’s Newman Center, located at 1800 E. Grand Ave. in Laramie. The dinner is one of UW’s Black History Month events. Free.

Thursday, Feb. 27, 6:30 p.m. -- Cowgirl basketball vs. Fresno State, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Thursday, Feb. 27, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO presents Open Mic Night with Shawn Hess. The show will take place in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Friday, Feb. 28, 10 a.m. -- As part of Black History Month events at UW, “Women in Hip-Hop Culture” will be discussed in the UW College of Business Building, Room 9. Free.

Friday, Feb. 28, noon -- The UW School of Energy Resources Speaker Series presents Michael Woodhouse, a researcher at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. He will discuss the international supply chain in the Energy Innovation Center’s Encana Auditorium. Lunch will be provided. Free.

Friday, Feb. 28, 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. -- UW’s 7220 Entertainment Films Committee will screen “Hustlers” at 6:30 p.m. and “Bombshell” at 9 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Free.

Friday, Feb. 28, 8 p.m. -- The UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium presents “Our Special Star” in the Physical Sciences Building basement. Tickets cost $3 for students and $5 for nonstudents. Tickets for children under age 5 are free. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics/planetarium.

Saturday, Feb. 29, 4-8 p.m. -- The UW Bangladesh Students’ Association will host Bangladesh Night. A cultural show will be staged from 4-6 p.m. in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. The show is free and open to the public. A dinner will begin at 7 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Yellowstone Ballroom. Dinner tickets will be available at the Wyoming Union information desk.

Saturday, Feb. 29, 2 p.m. -- The UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium presents “Max Goes to the Moon” and “From Earth to the Universe,” two full-dome movies, in the Physical Sciences Building basement. Tickets cost $3 for students and $5 for nonstudents. Tickets for children under age 5 are free. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics/planetarium.
