'Antigone Project: A Play in Five Parts' March 12 at UW

A “Read, Rant, Relate” play reading and community discussion of “Antigone Project: A Play in Five Parts” is Thursday, March 12, at 6 p.m. in the University of Wyoming Art Museum.

The event is a partnership of UW Classics, Relative Theatrics and the UW Art Museum. The event is in conjunction with the UW Department of Modern and Classical Languages course, “Classical Greek Civilization,” that also has an exhibition in the UW Art Museum’s Pat Guthrie Teaching Gallery.

Created by Chiori Miyagawa and Sabrina Peck, the play explores how individuals can respond to systemic oppression based on gender, class and race. The playwrights are five multiracial women -- Karen Hartman, Tanya Barfield, Caridad Svich, Lynn Nottage and Miyagawa.

“‘Antigone Project’ creates a theatrical relay through time and space,” says Laura De Lozier, UW Department of Modern and Classical Languages senior lecturer.

“Antigone Project” is funded, in part, by grants and support from Think WY, the Wyoming Institute for Humanities Research, the Classical Association of the Middle West and South Committee for the Promotion of Latin, and the UW Department of Modern and Classical Languages. “Read, Rant, Relate” is a theatrical-reading program funded, in part, by Wyoming Humanities.
