UW Searches for Dean of Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources

March 2, 2020

The University of Wyoming has launched a national search to identify the next dean of the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources.

“The Haub School is seeking a charismatic, visionary and scholarly leader with a proven track record in promoting excellence in education, research and outreach; fundraising; and building strong partnerships both within and outside the university setting,” says Robert Aylward, chair of the Haub School Dean Search Committee and UW’s vice president and chief information officer for information technology. “The Haub School is a unique gem in the university’s portfolio and in Wyoming. This is an incredible opportunity for the right person to lead the extraordinary team of staff and faculty at the Haub School into the next phase of growth and success.”

Founded in 1993, the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources advances the understanding and resolution of complex environment and natural resource issues. The Haub School’s academic programs are a nexus for interdisciplinary environment and natural resources education and inquiry, and the school’s curricula emphasize collaborative approaches that prepare students to become future leaders and problem solvers in the environment and natural resource fields.

The Ruckelshaus Institute, a division of the Haub School, supports stakeholder-driven solutions to environmental challenges by conducting and communicating relevant research and promoting collaborative decision-making.

The Haub School has experienced significant growth over the past few years, dramatically increasing the number of core faculty from 13 to 22 members, and expanding the number of tenure-track faculty from six to 11. In 2018, the school added a new degree program in outdoor recreation and tourism management and also launched the Whitney MacMillan Private Lands Stewardship Program, which connects private landowners with tools and resources to keep agricultural operations viable and sustain working landscapes. Since fall 2017, the school has doubled student enrollment to 439 current students.

The dean of the Haub School, who also holds a Wyoming Excellence Chair, is the unit’s chief academic and administrative officer and reports to the university’s provost. In addition to leadership within the school, the dean drives a strong vision of innovation and inclusivity that includes a broad network of financial, campus, statewide, regional, national and international partners.

The search is being organized by Summit Search Solutions Inc., an executive search firm dedicated to serving education and nonprofit communities. People who apply by March 22 will be given first consideration.
