The University of Wyoming Art Museum will feature the 46th annual Juried UW Student Exhibition during a free virtual reception to celebrate the exhibitions for the spring semester Friday, Feb. 19.

A virtual gallery walk-through of the current exhibitions -- with specially paired music -- will start at 6 p.m., and the student awards ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. Although the reception is free, preregistration is required. For more information and to register, go to www.uwyo.edu/artmuseum/events.

The 46th annual Juried UW Student Exhibition is open to any student enrolled at UW during the current academic year, regardless of area of study. This includes any in-state student enrolled through UW distance courses. The exhibition is on view through May 15.

The student exhibition is juried each year by an out-of-state juror. This year’s exhibition was selected by Meredith Lynn, assistant curator and director of galleries at Florida State University’s Museum of Fine Arts, who reviewed 100 submissions by UW students. A number of purchase and scholarship awards will be announced at 6:30 p.m. during the Feb. 19 virtual reception.

“The student exhibition showcases the exciting artwork of UW students from a range of academic disciplines,” says Michelle Sunset, assistant curator at the UW Art Museum. “The virtual spring opening this year will be a great opportunity for folks near and far to join us in celebrating the students and experiencing the UW Art Museum’s new exhibitions.”

Other spring semester exhibitions are:

-- “William Kentridge: Universal Archive” features more than 75 linocut prints -- meticulously based on ink sketches -- that shift from identifiable subject matter to deconstructed images of abstract marks on dictionary and encyclopedia pages. The exhibition is on view through May 22.

-- “Women in Wyoming: Portraits and Interviews of Women Who Shape the West” presents large-scale portraits, an audio soundscape and interactive storytelling components that engage museum visitors to tell stories about inspiring women in their own lives. The exhibition is on view through July 17.

-- “The West on Horseback: From the UW Art Museum Collection” explores various representations of an iconic and enduring symbol of the American West: the horse. The exhibition is on view through July 31.

-- The Pat Guthrie Special Exhibitions Teaching Gallery is on view through May 15. The teaching gallery model integrates original art into UW coursework curriculum and presents exhibitions available to students and the public throughout the semester. Working closely with faculty, courses this semester are “CLAS/HIST/POLS 3050: Athenian Democracy”; “EDEL 3170: Art in the Elementary School”; and “HIST 4412/ENR 5412: Global Environmental History.”

-- “Sharon Louden: ‘Windows’ at the University of Wyoming Art Museum” presents a suspended, temporary, custom, site-specific sculpture using highly reflective, curved aluminum sheets in the UW Art Museum’s entrance hall. It will be on view through Feb. 19.
