A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program director and associate lecturer with the University of Wyoming’s Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing has been selected to serve on the Thought Leadership Advisory Council at Sentinel U®, a provider of web-based simulation education technology solutions for nursing schools, hospital systems and health care professionals.

David Bodily, who earned his BSN in 2005 and his Master of Science in 2011, both from UW, will join a group of highly respected individuals with backgrounds in nursing education and online simulation curriculum delivery.

These advisory council members will work closely with Sentinel U to share their observations from the front lines, as well as provide feedback on the company’s simulations as it seeks to support the nursing workforce pipeline.

“I’ve been drawn to simulation education and the prospects of virtual delivery since my first faculty appointment in 2006,” Bodily says. “Given the effects of the global pandemic and the solutions these paradigms can provide, I feel I’m in the right place.”

Bodily provides simulation consultation across the country, including serving as a manuscript reviewer for the journal Clinical Simulation in Learning. He also received the 2020 Wyoming Nurses Association’s Inspiring Our Future Nurses Award.

“The launch of the advisory council comes at a critical time for nursing education and practice,” says a news release announcing Bodily’s council selection. “With the pandemic resulting in a mass exodus of seasoned nurses and clinical rotations not as available as they used to be, virtual simulation has become increasingly important for filling the gap to reinforce vital information for new and soon-to-be nurses.”

The Sentinel U Advisory Council is a two-year commitment. The council will meet at least three times each year to provide thought leadership on current popular topics such as the state of the nursing profession and the future of simulation integration. Additionally, members will provide feedback and recommendations on the company’s newest simulations and products.

“David is an extraordinary faculty member and leader of our undergraduate programs,” says Sherrill Smith, dean of the Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing. “This appointment is recognition that his accomplishments and reach go far beyond working with our students, but to those nurses and future nurses who are increasingly engaging in simulations to enhance their learning.”
