The University of Wyoming’s Katie Christensen is the recipient of the 2022 Wyoming Art Educator Award from the National Art Education Association (NAEA).

Christensen’s award is based from her previous work with Wyoming art education associations, including her roles as an arts education specialist at the Wyoming Arts Council from 2013-15 and as curator of education and statewide engagement at the UW Art Museum from 2015-2021. She is now a procurement specialist at the UW Procurement Technical Assistance Center, which is part of the Wyoming Small Business Development Center Network.

“I’m honored to be recognized by colleagues in the field, especially as I am making a career pivot to focus on the intersections of the arts and mental health,” Christensen says. “I’m grateful for my time at the UW Art Museum. It’s a great resource for our community, state and beyond.”

The NAEA award is determined through a peer review of nominations. It honors a member from each state or province association whose contribution to art education merits recognition. The award was presented to Christensen last week at the NAEA national convention in New York City.

“This award is given to recognize excellence in professional accomplishment and service by a dedicated art educator,” says James Haywood Rolling Jr., NAEA president. “Christensen exemplifies the highly qualified art educators active in education today: leaders, teachers, students, scholars and advocates who give their best to their students and the profession.”

Founded in 1947, NAEA is the leading professional membership organization exclusively for visual arts, design and media arts education professionals. The organization champions creative growth and innovation by equitably advancing the tools and resources for a high-quality visual arts, design and media arts education throughout diverse populations and communities of practice.
