UW Department of Music Features AdZel Clarinet Duo April 18

The University of Wyoming Department of Music presents “AdZel Duo: Clarinets Alive” Monday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.

AdZel Duo is the collaboration of internationally renowned clarinetists Mariam Adam and Stephanie Zelnick. The duo blends original music and spoken word to combine education and music into a modern language that embraces diversity in classical music.

Tickets are $10 for the public; $7 for senior citizens; $6 for students not attending UW; and free to UW students with a “W” number. To purchase tickets, visit the Performing Arts box office, call (307) 766-6666 or go online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

The recital program will feature a variety of clarinet music by living composers, including “Catawampus” by Jason Barabba; “Sonatine à Francis Poulenc” by Sergio Delgado; “AdZel” by Mohammed Fairouz; “Color of Honey” and “Antelope Pavane” by UW Department of Music Professor Anne Guzzo; “Castle Creek Run” by Forrest Pierce; and “Cinco Bocetos” by Roberto Sierra.

Adam is an assistant professor of clarinet at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music. She is an internationally known chamber musician, soloist, music advocate and educator originally from Monterey, Calif. Zelnick is a professor of clarinet at the University of Kansas and principal clarinet of the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra. Both have performed extensively around the world and the U.S.

AdZel Duo has performed and taught in such venues as Carnegie Hall; the Costa Rica International Clarinet Festival; Eastman School of Music; the European Clarinet Conference; Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival; the International Clarinet Association ClarinetFest; the Juilliard School; the Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium; Rutgers School of Music; the San Francisco Conservatory of Music; the Yale School of Music; the Zodiac Festival; and several other campuses across the U.S.
