UW Nordic Ski Team Trash 2 Treasures Garage Sale Fundraiser Sept. 11

It may be on a different day, but the University of Wyoming Nordic ski team’s annual “Trash 2 Treasures” (T2T) fundraiser still promises plenty of bargains for the campus and Laramie communities.

The team’s “biggest garage sale of the year” fundraiser is moved to a Sunday date instead of the usual Saturday in August. The latest event is Sunday, Sept. 11, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Summit View Parking Lot east of War Memorial Stadium, located on the corner of 22nd Street and Willett Drive.

The sale will offer quality furniture and appliances for incoming and returning students, plus others, looking to furnish their homes, apartments or residence halls at an affordable cost, plus much more “treasures.” UW Nordic ski team members have collected items throughout the summer.

“We have three shipping containers full of good stuff, so we’re hoping for a good turnout,” says Christi Boggs, who is the co-head coach with Rachel Watson.

For bargain hunters, early bird shoppers will be admitted for $5 beginning at 8 a.m., and a free general admission starts at 9 a.m. All remaining items will be sold for 50 percent off at noon, and selected items are free starting at 2 p.m.

UW’s Nordic ski team -- as a way to reduce unnecessary waste and to provide quality items for sale -- founded the T2T program in 2013. The environmental fundraiser is in conjunction with SNOW (Skiers Nordic of Wyoming), the UW Sustainability Club, UW SLCE (Service, Leadership and Community Engagement) and The Cottage at St. Matthew’s.

All proceeds help fund the team’s travels this season, including to the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association national championships next March 7-11 in Mammoth, Calif.
