UWs Kean Named VP for Budget and Finance, CFO

Alex Kean, who has filled several roles in the University of Wyoming’s Division of Budget and Finance, has been promoted to the position of vice president for budget and finance and chief financial officer.

The appointment was approved Friday by the university’s Board of Trustees.

“Alex has provided strong, steady leadership to help us navigate an extremely challenging period,” President Ed Seidel says. “We’re delighted he has accepted the position of vice president to continue and build upon the great work he and his team have done to strengthen the university’s financial position.”

Kean came to UW in 2018 and has held the positions of director for budget and institutional planning; associate vice president for budget and planning; and, most recently, deputy vice president for budget and finance.

“I am honored by the opportunity to serve in this capacity and to work with President Seidel’s distinguished leadership team,” Kean says. “I am thrilled to be leading a talented budget and finance team as we continue to build and expand our collaboration with all divisions of the university.”

Before his time at UW, Kean worked for the Wyoming Department of Administration and Information’s Economic Analysis Division and the Wyoming Legislative Service Office. He started his career as a school finance auditor for the state in 2006.

Kean earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan., in 2002.
