UWs LeaRN Brings Author, Podcaster Singal to Campus Oct. 3

University of Wyoming students, faculty, staff and the public are invited to join Jesse Singal, the co-host of the podcast “Blocked and Reported” and the author of “The Quick Fix,” in a live conversation Monday, Oct. 3, at 5 p.m. in the Wyoming Union’s Yellowstone Ballroom.

“The Quick Fix” explores how tempting it is to look for easy answers to complex problems, even when trendy solutions to pressing social issues might actually hinder the progress people are trying to achieve.

Students in more than 10 of UW’s first-year seminar classrooms have been reading portions of Singal’s latest book, exploring the science behind grit and Harvard University’s implicit association test. This lively presentation will be rich with issues surrounding the challenges of research in an overwhelming media landscape and how to be responsible information consumers and adept critical thinkers.

Singal is a former staff writer and editor at New York Magazine, where he covered social science, internet culture and other topics. His work also has been featured in The New York Times, The Atlantic and The Wall Street Journal.

UW’s Learning Resource Network (LeaRN) is hosting the discussion. LeaRN works with students and faculty members to promote academic success, engagement and enrichment of the college experience. LeaRN is housed within the Office of Academic Affairs and partners heavily with the Division of Student Affairs.
