Nobuntu, a dynamic female a cappella quintet from Zimbabwe, are the special guest artists scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, in the University of Wyoming Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.

Tickets are $12 for the public, $8 for senior citizens and $6 for students. To purchase tickets, visit the Performing Arts box office, call (307) 766-6666 or go online at www.tix.com/ticket-sales/uwyo/6984.

Named for an African concept that values humility, love, purpose, unity and family from a woman’s perspective, Nobuntu was founded in 2011 by a new generation of young women singers to celebrate and preserve their culture, beauty and heritage through art. Nobuntu is grounded in the belief that music is the most important and original wheel of change and can transcend racial, tribal, religious, gender and economic boundaries.

Members are Heather Dube, Zanele Manhenga, Brenda Rera, Duduzile Sibanda and Joyline Sibanda.

The ensemble has drawn international acclaim for its inventive performances, which range from traditional Zimbabwean songs to Afro jazz to gospel. Their concerts are performed with pure voices, augmented by minimalistic percussion, traditional instruments such as the mbira (thumb piano) and organic, authentic dance movements.

Nobuntu was nominated for 2015 Best Musician of the Year at the Zimbabwe International Women Awards in London and was a two-time winner of the Best Imbube Group at the Bulawayo Arts Awards in 2017 and 2019.

The quintet has performed at festivals and concert halls in Italy, Austria, Germany, Belgium, the Czech Republic and throughout the African continent. The ensemble was a critical success at Trans-Vocal in Frankfurt and Voice Mania in Vienna. Its first tour to Canada, in 2016, included performances in Toronto, Winnipeg, Vancouver and Victoria.

Nobuntu has released two albums, “Thina” (2013) and “Ekhaya” (2016).
