UW Honors College Celebrates Faculty Award Recipients

The University of Wyoming Honors College recently announced the recipients of its annual awards honoring distinguished faculty and staff members for their excellence in teaching and service.

Students submit nominations for the awards, and an Honors College faculty committee selects the recipients. This year’s committee included Dean Peter Parolin; Assistant Dean Breezy Taggart; Tom Grant, an assistant instructional professor in the college; and Maggie Bourque, an associate lecturer in the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources and an affiliate faculty member in the Honors College.

“This year’s award recipients come from all across the Honors College and the university,” Parolin says. “Their fierce commitment to providing outstanding mentorship and a world-class education makes a huge difference for UW students. On behalf of the Honors College and all of us at UW, I am grateful to them.”

This year’s Honors College award recipients are:

-- For excellence in teaching the first-year honors colloquium: Hosanna Krienke, an assistant lecturer in the Honors College and the Learning Resource Network.

-- For excellence in teaching an advanced honors course: Paul Taylor, an adjunct lecturer in the Honors College, for his course, “Wyoming Walkabout.”

-- For excellence in service to the college: Janice Grover, Carol J. McMurry Librarian for Academic Excellence, UW Libraries.

For excellence in mentoring capstone honors projects:

-- Joslyn Cassady, Honors College, for mentoring Makayla Kocher on the project “Living in Literacy: Finding the Value of Literacy in the Fabric of Icelandic Culture.”

-- Sarah Collins, Department of Zoology and Physiology, for mentoring Angela Zhu on the project “Those Dammed Beavers: Shifts in Benthic Invertebrate Food Webs and Assemblages in Their Ponds.”

-- Tessa Dallarosa, Department of Visual Arts, for mentoring Kiana Radcliffe on the project “Reconstructing Identity through Ritual.”

-- Elizabeth Lynch, Department of Anthropology, for mentoring Jaimie Adams on the project “Carved in Stone: Using Photogrammetry Methods to Describe and Interpret the Rock Art Panels Found at Trinchera Cave.”

-- Nancy Small, Department of English, for mentoring Liam Leslie on the project “And So Shoulders Sway: A Creative Writing Collection on Rationalizing Means-to-End Relationships.”

One final award, the Dean’s Award for Special Service to Honors, is awarded at the discretion of the dean. This year, the award goes to Li Teng, the Honors College director of student success.

The Honors College will celebrate this year’s award recipients at a reception in Room 106 of the Guthrie House Friday, May 5, from 4-5 p.m.
