State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent articles:

The New York Times interviewed Matt Kauffman, director of the Wyoming Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit at UW, for an article detailing the concerns of biologists about the future of migration patterns -- including antelope in western Wyoming.

Two of UW’s proposed projects -- the Science Initiative Building and a 10-year housing plan -- face an uphill battle in the Wyoming Senate, according to UW Vice President Chris Boswell. The Laramie Boomerang reported on his comments during last week’s UW Board of Trustees meeting.

Ornithology Exchange reprinted UW’s release noting that Anna Chalfoun, a UW associate professor of zoology, will receive the first Peter R. Stettenheim Service Award at the annual American Ornithological Society meeting this spring.

In a Boomerang article reprinted in The Wyoming Tribune Eagle, UW faculty members discussed a bill before the Wyoming Legislature addressing free speech on campus.

KGAB Radio, K2 Radio and KOWB Radio reprinted UW’s release announcing that Carl Frick, UW mechanical engineering department head, and his business partner won a National Football League startup competition in Minneapolis during Super Bowl week. They developed material lining for football helmets that helps reduce concussions. Wyoming Public Radio also published the article.

UW Board of Trustees member Dave Bostrom, of Worland, led a UW delegation in discussing the university Science Initiative during a recent Cody Rotary Club meeting, reported The Cody Enterprise.

The CS-T and Boomerang highlighted the appearance of 15-year-old pianist Daniela Liebman as part of the UW Presents spring schedule.

The Associated Students of UW (ASUW) passed a bill last week that updates the policies and funding to student groups that violate rules when sponsoring on-campus events, reported KGAB Radio.

The Sheridan Press reprinted UW’s release announcing the popular one-day lecture series, Saturday U, last weekend at Sheridan College. Chad Baldwin, UW associate vice president for communications and marketing, was interviewed by Sheridan Media about the event.

New UW Art Museum Director Marianne Wardle was profiled in The Boomerang.

Wyoming Public Radio interviewed student Jennet Nedirmammedova, who, like some UW students, struggles to make ends meet while studying and working nearly full time.

Turning Point USA, the conservative UW student organization, had its suspension lifted by ASUW and is eligible for student funds to organize on-campus events, reported The Boomerang.

Sheridan Media reprinted UW’s release announcing that Cheryl Strayed, the best-selling author of the memoir “Wild,” will visit UW for a public lecture and book signing next month.

UW art Professor Rikki Klages discussed, with The Boomerang, UW’s plan for supporting and acquiring public art for the campus.

The Boomerang noted that a survey, featuring UW, is being used to study how the educational communities and Laramie community at large view the relationships among one another.

Former UW basketball standout Larry Nance Jr. was the runner-up in the annual NBA All-Star weekend dunk contest, reported NBC Sports. His father won the first dunk contest in 1984 while playing for the Phoenix Suns.
