UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent articles:

Medical Xpress, Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology News, and Science News republished UW’s release reporting that UW researchers have found that mice engineered to have Huntington’s disease have an over-accumulation of iron in their mitochondria. Read UW’s original release here.

UW’s Matt Kauffman, from the Wyoming Migration Initiative, was interviewed by The Jackson Hole News and Guide on the tracking of a mule deer and the doe’s incredible migration. UW’s mule deer media release also was published by Elk Network, goHUNT and Wide Open Spaces.

Inside Higher Education interviewed Leigh Hall, UW’s Wyoming Excellence Endowed Chair in Literacy Education, and other educators for an article, titled “What Online Teachers Have Learned From Teaching Online.”

UW energy economist Rob Godby was interviewed by The Gillette News Record about local oil industry officials who remain cautiously optimistic emerging from the latest downturn.

The Laramie Boomerang reported that UW plans to offer more degree and certificate programs, many which will help boost Wyoming’s economy.

Wyoming Survey and Analysis Center research scientist Rodney Wambeam was one of the presenters at a conference on addiction prevention at Bismarck (N.D.) State College, according to a report in the Bismarck Tribune.

The Boomerang reported that UW, last week, launched the Rave Guardian smartphone app aimed at keeping students safe. Wyoming Business Report, Wyoming Public Radio and The Kansas City Star also published the article.

Sheridan Media published four UW releases: the epic mule deer’s migration story; the UW College of Law receiving high marks; the UW Trustees Education Initiative joining the Rising Educators Network; and a cybersecurity camp for teachers and students.

The Boomerang profiled the UW student-led group Zero Waste Initiative, which wants to make the campus greener and more sustainable by exploring the costs, benefits and need for large-scale composting.

The Boomerang also noted that UW plans to hire more custodians. Also picking up the article were the Seattle Times, KGWN TV and KULR8 Television in Billings.

UW’s College of Law has been ranked among the best law schools for practical training by preLaw and National Jurist magazines, noted Wyoming Business Report.

The Greeley Tribune republished an Associated Press article quoting UW economist Rob Godby for an article on a Colorado-based coal company that is considering bankruptcy.

UW management and marketing Assistant Professor Elizabeth Minton discussed the pros/cons of photos on credit cards with WalletHub, a website that bills itself as a resource to help consumers make good financial decisions.

High Plains/Midwest Ag Journal republished UW’s release announcing that the university’s annual ram tests offer producers firm data that help in overall production of their herds.

The final spring Saturday U program -- UW’s popular one-day lecture series -- was held in Rock Springs last weekend, reported Wyo4News.

Wyoming Business Report published UW’s release noting that UW’s Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center recently earned a national award not only for its design, but also how the facility caters to the campus community.

The Scottsbluff, Neb. Star Herald reported on a pair of UW Extension programs in Torrington and Lingle.

UW’s Shepard Symposium on Social Justice was previewed on The Los Angeles Blade website. KGAB Radio noted that Judy Shepard, the mother of slain UW student Matthew Shepard, was the keynote speaker at the symposium.

Beau Clark has been named the UW head rodeo coach. Publishing UW’s release were WyoSports, The Casper Star-Tribune, The Missoulian in Missoula, Mont., and Wrangler Network.

The Hollywood Reporter talked with director Darius Monroe, who discussed his documentary focusing on UW’s Black 14 football players.
