UW economist Rob Godby was interviewed by The BBC/PRI The World about Wyoming, the nation’s leading coal producer, looking into wind energy as a source of revenue. Godby says the challenge facing Wyoming wind is climate change skepticism.

Nashville Public Radio also interviewed Godby for a broadcast about wind energy. Godby said in the interview that Wyoming has the only wind generation tax in the country.

Financing options, including state loans and appropriations, and public-private partnerships, were the topic of discussion by a task force for UW’s housing plan, reported The Laramie Boomerang.

The Boomerang also noted that UW is considering support of the Pilot Hill Project, a proposal to acquire a valuable piece of private land that sits over the Casper aquifer east of Laramie on the edge of the Medicine Bow National Forest.

UW law Professor Michael Duff commented in a Casper Star-Tribune (CS-T) article about two workers who recently filed lawsuits claiming the energy companies they worked for in Wyoming didn’t pay them overtime. Wyoming does not offer a remedy for wage disputes with current employers.

Sweetwater Now reported that UW Extension and Cent$ible Nutrition will incorporate high-tunnel gardening into school programs as part of a Farm to School Grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The grant was awarded to the Wyoming Department of Education.

UW’s Ruckleshaus Institute is among entities encouraging public engagement in exploring management concerns, issues and opportunities for the Whiskey Mountain bighorn sheep herd in western Wyoming, reported Teton County’s news website Buckrail.

Buckrail also noted that UW Department of Art and Art History faculty member Brandon Gellis’ 3-D printed and laser cut interactive pieces, landscape reconstructions of Wyoming and Rocky Mountain West landscapes, and original video of the artist’s time exploring nature are on exhibit in Jackson.

UW Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources students presented updates during the Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance’s annual meeting last week, reported The Jackson Hole News and Guide.

The Sheridan Press reported that UW President Laurie Nichols and Athletics Director Tom Burman were among speakers at Camp U Leadership in Big Horn. The organization is a nonprofit that gives student-athletes specific tools in the area of leadership.

In a WPR story about creating a food policy council, UW Associate Professor Christine Porter said that when people buy and eat food grown by local producers, they are healthier, and it diversifies the economy.
