UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent articles:

The Laramie Boomerang reported that UW officials are studying how to increase the number of students who study abroad. U.S. News and World Report also published the Associated Press version of the article.

UW administrators are seeking to reallocate about $310,000 of the university’s existing budget to support some of the programs currently operated by the Biodiversity Institute, reported The Boomerang. UW’s release explains the university’s commitment to biodiversity science.

UW medical students will double the time they spend on campus starting in 2019, as the five-state WWAMI program ceases to bring students to Seattle for their second year of training, The Boomerang reported.

Wyoming Public Radio interviewed Emily Monago, UW chief diversity officer, about new mandatory training for faculty and staff in November that will help foster a stronger culture of inclusivity.

A full-color atlas of Wyoming’s big-game migrations has been published, Wyoming Public Radio reported. Matthew Kauffman, a U.S. Geological Survey researcher based at UW, said the maps reveal the complex world that wildlife navigate in order to survive. The Jackson Hole News and Guide published a similar article.

Wyoming Business Report interviewed Bernard Steinman, research director at the Wyoming Center on Aging and UW assistant professor, for an article detailing Laramie as the third city in Wyoming to join AARP’s national network of age-friendly cities.

Gang Tan, a UW engineering associate professor, and colleagues have successfully scaled up an innovative water-cooling system capable of providing continuous day-and-night radiative cooling for structures, according to Manufacturing.net.

Wyoming Public Radio interviewed UW economist Rob Godby who discussed coal mines, including Cloud Peak Energy in Wyoming, cutting back on workers’ medical benefits as a way to reduce costs.

Cheyenne attorney Greg Dyekman will receive the 2018 Daniels Fund Ethical Leadership Award, sponsored partly by the UW College of Business, Wyoming Business Report noted.

Sheridan Media published UW’s release announcing a reorganization of its geography instruction, research and service. Sheridan Media also interviewed Chad Baldwin, UW associate vice president for communications and marketing, about the favorable student satisfaction survey.

UW Parking and Transit held a community engagement meeting to discuss parking issues around the UW campus, noted The Boomerang.
