UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent articles:

Wyoming Public Media reported that UW and state officials recently broke ground for the Science Initiative facility. The $100 million facility is scheduled to be completed in 2021 and will contain a 200-seat classroom and research facilities.

A second search by UW to hire a new dean of the College of Health Sciences has failed, reported The Casper Star-Tribune and Wyoming Tribune Eagle.

High Country News quoted UW Professor Merav Ben-David about the increased number of river otters in the Beartooth Mountains.

The Gillette News Record reported that two local teachers were among state educators who participated in UW’s Robotics, Applied Mathematics, Physics and Engineering Design (RAMPED) II program this summer. The program incorporates concepts of computer science, computational thinking and cybersecurity into the classroom.

The Laramie Boomerang featured the UW Department of Music’s popular communitywide Chorale by Candlelight program this week at St. Matthew’s Cathedral.

Among UW releases printed on Sheridan Media’s website were: UW Research Scientist Ramesh Sivanpillai who is heading the coordination of satellite image acquisition and distribution activities for the California wildfires that have claimed more than 80 lives and destroyed hundreds of homes; UW law Professor Darrell Jackson and UW Art Museum Assistant Director Nicole Crawford’s research project that intersects criminal law and museums; and UW’s Panhellenic Council approved a new sorority, Alpha Phi.

Wyoming Public Media reported that UW approved a construction management program as a major and a minor, as well as a certificate for non-degree seeking students who want to enhance their construction management skills.

The UW Board of Trustees recently delayed making a decision about closing the Biodiversity Institute until January, noted The Gillette News Record and Wyoming Tribune Eagle.

BEEF Magazine quoted UW agriculture economist Tex Taylor on the price of sustainability efforts in the beef industry.
