UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

UW’s Matt Kauffman, director of the Wyoming Migration Initiative, was interviewed by Smithsonian.com on the use of improved GPS collars that help scientists map more herd migration routes, a key to conservation efforts in the western United States.

The Wyoming Migration Initiative and “Wild Migrations: Atlas of Wyoming’s Ungulates” were featured in a National Parks Traveler review.

County 10 and Sheridan Media published UW’s release on Erica Belmont, an assistant professor in the UW Department of Mechanical Engineering. She received a National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) award to study wildfire emissions and how they change the atmosphere.

Bachelor Degree Center’s (BDC) Childhood Education Degree Online Bachelor’s Programs for 2019 rankings list UW’s program No. 2 for preparing its graduates as early childhood educators, administrators or to work within agency referral networks and child advocacy. BDC editors developed their website to help prospective bachelor degree students find the best educational program most suited to their financial, educational and personal situations.

UW’s release on Professor Fred Ogden’s socio-economic study that looks at boosting the Panama Canal’s reliability was published by Science Magazine, Phys.Org and on Sheridan Media’s website.

NBC News noted that a cat in Kaycee tested positive for bubonic plague, according to results from the state veterinary lab located at UW. The cat is the third feline diagnosed with the intestinal viral bacteria in Wyoming the past six months.

KGAB Radio posted a UW Extension video detailing how different snow fence types create different results for different reasons.

UW is ranked among the 25 best colleges for skiing and snowboarding, noted Snow Industry News. College Consensus, a unique new college ratings website that aggregates publisher rankings and student reviews, compiled data for the survey. The Laramie Boomerang reported on the ranking.

Sheridan Media published UW’s release noting that Native American license plates honoring Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes are now available through the UW Alumni Association.

Enette Larson-Meyer, a professor in UW’s Human Nutrition and Food Program, was quoted in a U.S. News and World Report health article titled “Athletes Can Thrive on Plant-Based Diets.”

UW education Associate Professor Jenna Shim was interviewed by The Wyoming Tribune Eagle about interpreting Wyoming’s education data that reveals potential challenges for English language learner students.

The UW livestock judging team recently won the Arizona National, The Fence Post reported.

Buckrail published, on its website, UW’s release noting that more than 120 students from 11 Wyoming high schools participated in the 2018 High School Art Intensive at UW.
