UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

The Casper Star-Tribune interviewed Matthew Kauffman, unit leader of the Wyoming Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit at UW, for an article focusing on Gov. Mark Gordon’s draft executive order to bolster migration corridor protections. The draft attempts to strike a balance between the environment and the energy sector.

William Ruckelshaus, for whom the Ruckelshaus Institute -- a division of UW’s Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources -- is named, was remembered by close associates during a special feature on Wyoming Public Radio. Ruckelshaus, former Environmental Protection Agency director, died late last semester.

The Laramie Boomerang reported that UW officials asked the Legislature’s Joint Appropriations Committee for $12 million to fund a $22 million renovation and expansion of the College of Law. The college is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The Houston Chronicle and Washington Times published similar articles.

UW’s release on atmospheric science Assistant Professor Zachary Lebo’s research on near-surface wind effects on landscape evolution was published by Environmental News Network and Phys.org. State of the Planet published a similar article.

KGWN TV reported that UW’s Wyoming Early Childhood Outreach Network is among partners receiving a $2 million grant to support and improve early childhood education programs in Wyoming. UW is among the governor’s Early Childhood State Advisory Council.

UW atmospheric science Assistant Professor Jeff French discussed cloud-seeding effects with Wired. The online news website, based in the Middle East, featured an article about recent flooding in Dubai’s city streets and if cloud seeding in the United Arab Emirates is to blame.

Chad Baldwin, UW associate vice president for communications and marketing, was interviewed for the Up and Up podcast, “Undeclared,” to discuss the university’s “The World Needs More Cowboys” marketing campaign and how UW plays a vital role in the economic future in Wyoming. Up and Up is a branding and marketing agency for higher education based in South Carolina.

Sheridan Media and SweetwaterNOW published UW’s release announcing the energy-related Saturday University program later this month in Pinedale and Rock Springs.

UW’s release announcing “The World Needs More Cowboys” community celebration later this month in Sweetwater County was published by The Rocket Miner and on the Wyo4News and SweetwaterNOW websites.

Campus Rec Magazine featured Lena Newlin, UW Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center assistant director, who shared advice on mental health wellness.
