<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><item href="/uwag/roots-ranges-listing-page/2025/bison-conservation.html" dsn="blogs"><title>UW Zoology Student Helps Document Bison Conservation on the Wind River Indian Reservation</title><description>UW zoology and journalism student Elsa Freise spent summer 2024 documenting bison conservation efforts on the Wind River Indian Reservation as a recipient of the Larsh Bristol Photojournalism Fellowship. Working alongside the Wind River Tribal Buffalo Initiative, Freise helped with hands-on conservation work — including tearing down fences — while capturing the story of how Indigenous communities are revitalizing both their ecosystems and cultural heritage through bison restoration.
