Accessibility Management Platform (AMP)

The Accessibility Management Platform (AMP) is a web-based platform that provides a scalable solution for meeting the Section 508, American with Disabilities (ADA) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) compliance needs. AMP provides the infrastructure to facilitate all aspects of a successful accessibility compliance program.

The University of Wyoming has purchased the product AMP from a company named Level Access.  The wide scope of this software includes valuable tools including a best practices database and a training video library that both provide the educational materials needed to design, build and test digital assets that conform to specific accessibility requirements.

The Accessibility Team uses AMP to scan and find any accessibility violations and create a report from all the sites with the uwyo.edu domain. The team then, sends out the reports to all the site editors in the CMS. The report contains what violation has occurred and the location of the violation on the CMS page. It also gives brief explanation on what the violation means and how to fix them.

Resources in AMP

Best Practices Database

AMP Provides the "Best practices" resource under the Guidance Section on the Left hand menu. This section has the description of what to use to avoid the accessibility violation on the web page. Each best practice is supported with a description, compliant and non-compliant examples, recommendations, standards and tests. Site Editors can use this resource to develop and remediate website accessibility issues within your site. This is a very good knowledge to have to ensure that the webpages that are created are compliant according to the Accessibility Standards.

Toolbox

AMP platform has a toolbox resource section on the left hand menu that contains resources that can be used to make sure that the webpage is accessible.

Access Assistant

This is used to perform automated and manual testing for the webpage. You can download and install the browser-specific toolbar of your choice which is linked on the AMP Toolbox page. To test, load any webpage in the browser and launch the extension to automatically test the page. With Access Assistant, you can view the accessibility violations directly on the page and update the instance description and notes within the toolbar, saving your results to the AMP report of your choice.

Please click on "Login via SAML" and use your uwyo credentials. You can then download your browser extension.

Accessible Color Tools

There must be enhanced contrast between foreground and background text colors and images of text. Enhanced color contrast ensures that the page is usable by a very wide range of people with low vision and color deficiencies or when the page is viewed without color, and users of monochrome screens can understand page content.

Accessible Color Picker for Chrome

Leverage this in-browser color picker to evaluate the accessibility of your color palette. This tool allows you to select foreground and background colors and will determine the color contrast ratio between them. If your colors do not have sufficient contrast, this tool will suggest similar colors that are compliant.

Color Contrast Checker

The color contrast checker provides a quick and easy method for testing color combinations for validity under leading accessibility standards such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2 requirements.
