Cowboy football fans and other University of Wyoming supporters are invited to a combined Kickoff Friday and “The World Needs More Cowboys” celebration Friday, Nov. 5, from 5-7 p.m. at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center.
UW President Ed Seidel will be in attendance and speak during a brief program at the celebration, highlighting the university’s efforts to boost entrepreneurism and the state’s economy, among other topics.
There will be light appetizers and a cash bar.
In addition to being one of the UW Alumni Association’s (UWAA) regular Kickoff Friday events -- sponsored by UniWyo Federal Credit Union and taking place on designated Fridays before UW home football games -- this gathering will be the 23rd and final in a series of “The World Needs More Cowboys” events in each of the state’s counties.
The Cowboys play Colorado State Saturday, Nov. 6, at 1:30 p.m. at War Memorial Stadium.
“It’s clear that our marketing tagline, ‘The World Needs More Cowboys,’ has connected virtually with people across Wyoming. We’ve been holding these events around the state to make that connection even stronger through face-to-face interaction,” says Chad Baldwin, UW’s associate vice president for marketing and communications. “It’s a great opportunity for alumni to connect with their alma mater and one another, and for members of the local community and those coming for the football game to meet and hear from UW’s president.”
Additionally, UW alumnus Even Brande, of Laramie, will talk about how UW helped advance his career and prepare him for his role in the community -- and what it means to him to be a UW Cowboy. Brande is one of 24 UW alumni featured in advertising under the banner of “The World Needs More Cowboys -- and So Does Wyoming.” He is the founder and chairman of Handel Information Technologies.
All of the 23 other UW alumni from around the state featured in the campaign have been invited to attend and will be recognized.
UW Institutional Marketing also will premiere a new video launching the next stage of its “The World Needs More Cowboys” campaign.
“We have so enjoyed shining a light on these outstanding UW alumni who are making a difference in their communities around Wyoming,” UWAA Executive Director Keener Fry says. “This event will be a fitting way to conclude our series of events around the state -- hearing from President Seidel, recognizing a great alumnus who’s an entrepreneurial leader here in Albany County in Even Brande, and getting ready to cheer the Cowboys to victory the next day.”
Seidel began service as the university’s 28th president July 1, 2020. Before coming to UW, he was the vice president for economic development and innovation for the University of Illinois System, building and supporting programs that engage university, public and private partners -- and strengthening the links among higher education, research and business to stimulate economic development across that state.
