UW Plans Q&A Sessions on New Initiatives

People with questions about the University of Wyoming’s role in the Wyoming Innovation Partnership (WIP) and related UW initiatives can receive answers in upcoming meetings.

A UW question-and-answer session for all faculty, staff, students, stakeholders and the public is scheduled Tuesday, Oct. 19, from 3:30-5 p.m. A question-and-answer session specifically for UW and community college students is Thursday, Oct. 28, from 4-5 p.m.

Both events will take place in Room 133 of UW’s Classroom Building and will be livestreamed at https://wyocast.uwyo.edu/WyoCast/Play/38422b62cce64e8492e7d78fdc189e431d, with recordings made available to the public as well.

WIP is a collaborative effort with Gov. Mark Gordon and the state’s community colleges to develop innovative solutions that will support and enhance Wyoming’s economy and workforce. It includes an emphasis on focusing workforce development on high-potential areas; supporting and training entrepreneurs and new business startups; growing research and enhancing technology transfer and commercialization; and developing outside revenue sources such as corporate partnerships to provide new opportunities for students.

Connected with WIP are the proposed creation of a new UW School of Computing; a Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation; and the Wyoming Outdoor Recreation, Tourism and Hospitality Initiative.

UW leaders involved in the initiatives will be available to answer questions during the sessions. They include Professor Gabrielle Allen, special assistant for strategic initiatives in the Office of Research and Economic Development; Professor Bryan Shader, from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics; Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources Dean John Koprowski; College of Business Interim Dean Rob Godby; and Steve Farkas, associate vice president for economic development.
