Small-business owners can learn how to obtain federal contract dollars through becoming HUBZone-certified companies Monday, May 22.
Janean Forsyth and Deb Farris will present a Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network workshop titled “HUBZone Opportunity Workshop: Sweetwater County” from 5:30-7 p.m. at White Mountain Library, located at 2935 Sweetwater Drive in Rock Springs. To register, go here. Registration is free.
The Wyoming SBDC Network offers business expertise to help Wyoming residents think about, launch, grow, reinvent or exit their business. The Wyoming SBDC Network is hosted by the University of Wyoming with state funds from the Wyoming Business Council and funded, in part, through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
The HUBZone program fuels small-business growth in historically underutilized business zones with a goal of awarding at least 3 percent of federal contract dollars to HUBZone-certified companies each year. The government limits competition for certain contracts to businesses in historically underutilized business zones. It also provides preferential consideration to those businesses in full and open competition.
Before a business can participate in the HUBZone program, it must be certified by the U.S. SBA.
Joining the HUBZone program makes businesses eligible to compete for the program’s set-aside contracts. HUBZone-certified businesses also get a 10 percent price evaluation preference in full and open contract competitions. For more information on the HUBZone program, go here.
Forsyth is the Wyoming APEX Accelerator program manager, and Farris is deputy district director of the U.S. SBA for the Wyoming district office.
