Entertainment Featured in Year-End Union Fest May 3 at UW

Free music and food will be featured during Union Fest, a year-end celebration for University of Wyoming students, Friday, May 3, with various activities planned throughout the day.

Centered on the “Groovy ‘60s,” Union Fest, free and open to the public, begins on Simpson Plaza and Prexy’s Pasture at 11 a.m. with food, yard games, a roller rink and additional activities.

Los Angeles-based “lovelytheband,” a sleek-toned indie pop band with a warm West Coast sound, headlines Union Fest with a 5 p.m. concert on Prexy’s Pasture. Californian Emmy Meli opens the concert.

Lovelytheband formed in 2016 and, a year later, debuted its single “Broken,” which quickly earned more than 3 million streams on Spotify. The single charted on several Billboard charts, topping the Billboard Alternative Songs and Billboard Rock Airplay charts for several weeks. The single also became the band’s first top 10 on the Billboard Radio Songs chart and its first top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The band released its first EP, “Everything I Could Never Say...,” in 2017 and its debut album, “Finding It Hard to Smile,” dropped a year later.

Meli gained popularity after posting her debut song, “I Am Woman,” in 2021 on TikTok, where it has since had more than 22 million views.

UW’s Center for Student Involvement and Leadership, the Wyoming Union, 7220 Entertainment and the Associated Students of UW sponsor Union Fest, which marks the end of the 2023-24 academic year.
