UW Haub School to Present Wild and Working Lands Film Festival March 28

The University of Wyoming Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources’ third annual Wild and Working Lands Film Festival is Thursday, March 28, in Laramie.

The festival, which is free and open to the public, features seven short films exploring relationships between people and the landscapes where citizens live, work and play. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and films begin at 7 p.m. at the Gryphon Theatre, located at 710 E. Garfield St.

An additional free public screening will take place at the Cody Theatre in Cody at 7 p.m. Friday, April 12. The event will be hosted by the East Yellowstone Collaborative and friends.

With an emphasis on stories set in the wild and rural areas of the Great Plains, the Rocky Mountains and high desert sagebrush steppe, the festival inspires audiences to better understand the current world and work toward a future where people and natural environments prosper together.

Festival Director Anastasia Brady, UW Haub School special events coordinator, says she hopes the event will shed light on the innovative conservation initiatives taking place across the West, benefiting both human communities and natural habitats.

“The showcased films not only highlight pioneering conservation efforts, but they also celebrate the profound connection between people and the land,” Brady says. “The Wild and Working Lands Film Festival is dedicated to fostering a collective understanding of our contemporary world and striving for a future where both human and natural environments flourish together, all through the captivating medium of film.”

Films cover such topics as conservation in the West, wildlife-friendly fencing, Indigenous traditions, migration paths and sustainable fishing practices.

At the Laramie screening, popcorn will be provided, with other snacks and beverages available for purchase.
